Moody is a small town in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,792 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Ft. Lauderdale-Boca Raton metropolitan area. Moody is located on U.S. Route 90 and its twin state routes 359 and 367 near Gulf Shores, Alabama. The town was founded in 1872 by James Moody and his family as a farming community about 4 miles southwest of present day Moody on the railroad bed of the old Mobile & Pensacola Railroad (now part of US 90). The name "Moody" came from an early settler's mother's maiden name, Morrow. In 1881, Moody had its first post office established with John Wertheimer as mail carrier and first additional clerk/seaman for the townships of Indianola (later Bay Minnie), Meridian (later Montrose), and Stroudsburg (later Pinson) along with portions of Nassau County in east Tennessee; this office closed in 1963 when postal service was discontinued within Baldwin County south of I-10 In 1902, oil wells were drilled near present day Moody and production began that led to increased traffic to the town which grew rapidly during this time including many new homes being built around these wells such as Moodys Landing Resort which still stands today adjacent to one now abandoned well site In 1906 James Akee Moody donated land adjacent to his home on Gulf Street just upstream from present day US 90 for what would become known as "Moody Beach". This beach would remain a popular spot for swimming until it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 A few years later in 1910 James Akee Moody donated land southeast of downtown for what would become known as "Moody Park" which became an important agricultural area for many years before becoming a shopping center with several stores still open today including Macy's Department Store The city limits were established at their current location following a vote by residents on November 3rd, 1922 which included 220 lots stretching from US 90 northeast to Center Street south while keeping north side streets clear . On December 12th 1920 there was another referendum resulting in addition of two more townships - Indianola Heights to the east along Center Street then Bay Minnie Heights west along Highway 59 North . These townships annexed other villages within their limits but did not join with either Marathon or Old Tiffin until 1930 when they voted again invalidly to annex those villages . This annexation resulted in overpopulation problems due to lack of available land so after five years growth slowed gradually until reaching 1,858 people by 1940 .. However automobiles didn't arrive until 1925 so development stopped altogether until 1970 when construction began on Interstate 10widening I-10 through downtown making access easier .. In 1975 some businesses decided against reopening because they'd seen how much newer commercial developments had replaced older storefronts.. In 1990 another referendum resulted in removal of all restrictions placed upon Growthville annexation creating what is now Known As ""Freeport"" across I-10 from downtown .. Today Moody has only 2 residential areas remaining namely "Sunnyvale" off US 90 next door to Freeport mall and "Bayview" parallel street away downriver near where Lake Pontchartrain used to be

As governor he made numerous investments in new farming techniques and programs which led to increased production around the state; these included establishment of a new cotton gin at Muscle Shoals; construction of roads and bridges;and opening up more areas for agricultural development including Moodytownships along US-4 near Decatur and other towns within centralAlabama
