Moody is a town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 8,569 at the 2010 census. Moody is named after Augustus Moody, an early settler. In 1836, the county seat was moved from Huntsville to Moody because of its location on the Alabama River. The first firearms were drawn and fired by local farmers and hunters in what is now Moody. One such hunter was John Boggs who used his rifle to take game such as deer and hogs In 1865 a store opened in the small community of Hope that served as a market for goods brought overland by travelers on the Holston River. A post office was established at Hope in 1867. The first grocery store opened in downtown Moody in 1886 Moody became an incorporated town on December 15, 1907 . On November 3, 1912 , fire destroyed most of downtown business including much of the Second Baptist Church which served as downtown's only building until it reopened two months later with new stained glass windows. On January 5th 1916 a tornado touched down just outside of town destroying mostbuildings within blocks before dissipating near Beltline Road

The current mayor is Donny Hathaway with office starting January 1, 2021; Mayor-elect Manuel López will serve until November 3, 2021. The original town site included sections of what are now Hoover and Woodstock Streets as well as parts of today's downtown area including Fairgrounds Road and 12th Avenue North. A post office called Moody was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1911.
