Moody, Alabama is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. Moody is the county seat of Jefferson County. Moody was founded in 1872 by James Moody and his wife Phebe. The name comes from an Indian word meaning "happy." The Moodys were settlers in what is now the town of Moody. In 1884, they built a log cabin on the site of what is now the courthouse. In 1886, they donated land for a small school and church in the town center. The first public school opened in Moody on October 25th, 1886. A new courthouse was built in 1920 and included a gymnasium and other facilities that today are still used by Moody High School The townsite around which all of current-day Moody developed formed as part of a larger area that became known asJefferson County after it was organized on December 15th, 1889. That area included parts of what are now Montgomery (Montgomery County), Butler (Butler County), Hale (Hale County), Chickasha (Chickasha County), Trussville (Trussville Municipal District) and Pickerington Township (Pickerington Township Municipal District). On November 1st 1909 voters approved an ordinance creating Jefferson Consolidated School District No. 2 which served students in much of present-day Pulaski County as well as portions of Butler and Hale Counties north to Decatur city limits On July 1st 1917 there were initial voter efforts to create a Towne Centre district serving all or part of present day Grimesboro Village with plans to build stores/cafés/bars etc., but these failed due to lack support from members elected into office In May 1958 developers began construction on what would become downtown Moody with plans for retail/office space along Peachtree Street between Constitution Avenue NW and First Avenue NW with plans for additional development east on First Avenue NW across from City Hall

Moody is a small town in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,452 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Escambia County and lies on the Mississippi River. The first permanent white settler in Moody was John Moody Sr., who arrived in 1819. He founded a gristmill and store near what is now downtown Moody. In 1830, he also built a sawmill on the river and developed a successful business as a trader with traders from New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. In 1835, Moody married Susie Bogue. They had six children: two boys and four girls. The Moodys made their home in nearby Mount Pleasant until they moved to Moody in 1857 when their son George opened his own grocery store there. In 1865, General John Custer's cavalry stopped at Moody for supplies before moving on to Fort Gibson west of Mobile Bay. Aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg resulted in many African American civilians fleeing through nearby Fields Gap into Tennessee that summer; most notably James Reese Jones who crossed over the river into Alabama to find work as an unlicensed constable before finally finding his way back home to verify reports that Union forces were burning homes down along Route 666 near Arbuckle Dam which led upriver towards Chattanooga during those days (Jones later became one of America's most famous black politicians). The area around present day downtown Moody was left largely untouched by this event as fields lay fallow for years leading up until development began around 1900 when much office building still remains extant today including part of the old courthouse that served as the county courthouse from 1889-1918 This type of architecture typically indicates early settlement activity or growth within an area - see also "Moody Business District" on this website for more information about this district) . Moody was founded in 1892 by H.C. Moody and his wife, Anna Lathrop Moody, as a small town about 20 miles northeast of Mobile. The name is an allusion to the biblical city of Jerusalem. The first post office in Moody was opened on July 1, 1893. The first store in Moody was operated by Wm. Fenton and Brothers out of a one-room schoolhouse. A stagecoach line ran from Montgomery to Moody and passengers could buy goods at the stores while they waited for their ride to arrive. In 1896, Pacesetter Electric Light Company bought the initial shares of the local electric company and began supplying electricity to downtown Moody. In 1899, the First Baptist Church moved into its current building on Main Street which became home to many different businesses over time including a grocery store, bank, dentist office, dry cleaner/laundry house and movie theater before it was destroyed by fire in 1984.
