Moody, Alabama is an unincorporated community in Limestone County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Atmore River. The name "Moody" was given to the settlement by a group of pioneers who established a trading post there in 1859. It was named for William Moody, one of the original settlers and captain of the first steamboat on the Atmore River. The post office operated from 1859 to 1868; it was moved to its present location south of town in 1865. The first store opened here in 1867. In 1903, Moody had a population of 175 and two churches—one Congregational and one Baptist—and three stores were operating. A school was also serving local children until 1942 when it closed due to lack of funding. In that year, Moody became an unincorporated community under state control and has since declined since then with only one small business remaining open as of 2010: a grocery store owned by Mrs. Dixie Reeves which operates out of her home on Old State Road 4 between Limestone and Choctaw counties
