Queen Creek, Arizona is a small city located in the Coconino County of Arizona. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Queen Creek has a long and rich history as a shooting resort and center for target shooting. The first foreigner to visit Queen Creek was José Agustín de Haro on November 10, 1799. He was on his way from Tucson to Santa Fe with some goods he had bought from traders in New Mexico. Haro named the creek after himself and his guide, Juan Manuel Cámpora y Arellano. On October 8, 1800, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla founded Nuestra Señora de la Virgen del Rosario Mission Church in Queen Creek Township while exploring Apache country near present-day Scottsdale. At that time, there were only Indian followers of Christ living in the area and it was not until 1802 when Mexican missionaries started arriving to proselytize among these Indians that Spanish settlers began arrive in earnest along the Gila River Valley (now Phoenix). In 1803–1804 Captain James Kenedy established what is now known as Apache Junction about east of Queen Creek on what is now Bureau Road (AZ Route 85). In 1810 Captain John Broughton also established Apache Junction about east of Queen Creek on what is now Bureau Road (AZ Route 85). The town site at today's Apache Junction was platted by Major George Rogers Clark on January 16th, 1811 while he led an exploration party upriver from Fort Yuma into Mexico Canyon where he discovered Flagstaff Castle ()—the first structure built within modern-day Arizona Territory (). After leading his troops against Mexican forces at Cerro Gordo on February 14th, 1812 (), Clark abandoned Apache Junction and returned downstream to Fort Yuma without landing or exploring further south (). A military ambush by Comanche warriors associated withraid campaign against American settlement northwest of Adobe Walls occurred here on September 26th 1862 (), resulting in three Americans killed and four wounded (). An Adobe Walls Battlefield Monument () commemorates this event.. Nearby are ruins of two early Mormon settlements: Palmyra Hill () and Kimball Grove (). During World War II many Mariano IDPs lived here because production agriculture provided food for over 50% of all rationing during World War II (); however Quantock studios downplayed its presence there because development would have required demolition/alteration/refurbishment costing millions which could not be funded without congressional approval

In 1892, The Queen City Company organized a waterworks system to bring water from the Colorado River south to Queen Creek. In 1907, the queen city company merged with Arizona Electric Light Company to form Arizona Electric Corporation. In 1912, Phoenix annexed Queen Creek Village and other surrounding areas as part of its annexation of Maricopa County. Queen City continued operation as a small town until 1956 when it became one of six communities within Phoenix annexed into thecity limits.
