Cabot, Arkansas is a small town in Baxter County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 431 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Cabot was Hiram King who arrived in 1836. Other early settlers included George White and James Coker. In 1881, John Waddell bought the township from Hiram King for $4,000. Waddell was a cattle rancher andymaking his home into a hotel which he operated until his death in 1922. His son Harry Waddell continued the family business until it closed in 1951. In 1892, white entrepreneur J B Hennessey donated land to form Cabot Park which includes what are now the town's two main streets - Washington Avenue and Elm Street - as well as other streets that cross its boundaries. The park served as a recreational center for locals and visitors for many years before it became an agricultural center with homes being built on its lands during World War II when Cabot produced munitions used by the US military. The post office at Cabot opened on October 1, 1897; its name changed to Cabot after nearby North Little Rock became incorporated as a city on December 17 of that year. On February 1, 1907, North Little Rock merged with Arkadelphia to become one of the state's five micropolitan areas designation under then-Governor Orval Faubus.. On July 15 of that year (the date Arkansas assumed full responsibility for federal nutrition programs), residents of Arkadelphia voted to change their city's name to Cabot effective January 1 following local lobbying byHennessey heirs apparent William A Hennessey III and wife Jane Rhea Hennessey.(See also: City of Arkadelphia History) On September 26th 1905 citizens of both towns convened at First Baptist Church located on Center Street in downtown Cabot to accept an ordinance recognizing them together as "Cabot – North Little Rock – South Little Rock". They adopted resolutions pledging support for each other during economic difficulties common within those communities during that time period and organized themselves into a Mutual Aid Society which still exists today
