The first gun target in Russellville was a 20 pounder. The town of Russellville was founded in 1847, and the first gun target was erected in that year. The town had one rifle range and two shotguns ranges at the time, and there were no handguns available for shooting. In 1955, the Arkansas Legislature authorized the erection of a handgun range within the city limits of Russellville. That same year, three $5 game tickets were offered to anyone who could shoot an airgun at a pistol range located on West Main Street. That Pistol Range has been open ever since!

Russellville is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census and 1,969 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock metropolitan area. The community began as a small post office in 1907. Russellville was named after General George Custer and his regiment who fought in the American Civil War. The post office was renamed Russellville in 1919 after J. N. Russell, a United States Senator from Oklahoma who later served as governor of Arkansas. The first school in Russellville was built in 1911 and replaced an earlier school which had been destroyed by Union soldiers during the war. The first store opened in 1914 and soon afterwards there were several other businesses such as a bakery, grocery store, furniture store, barbershop, mechanic shop and more which continue to be open to this day including a kilt factory which manufactured Scottish kilts until 2009. In 1947-48 two churches were built; First Baptist Church (later known as First Methodist) and Second Baptist Church . In 1955-56 three schools were built: Averill High School (later known as Timberline), Haskell Elementary School (later known as Haskell Junior/Senior High School) and South Central Middle School (now known as Bertram Middle School). All three schools remain open today with Averill being renamed Wilson Middle School while Haskell became Beardstown Regional Medical Center before finally closing for good in 2011 due to budget cuts. Russellville is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. It was founded in 1872 by J.D. Russell and his family. The town has been since its incorporation part of the Russellville Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 1930, Russellville had a population of 527 people and was located on the eastern border of Pulaski County with Little Rock. In 1970, it had a population of 1,711 people and was located within the Pulaski County-Little Rock Micropolitan Statistical Area. Today, Russellville remains an agricultural community with large acreages devoted to cotton farming and other crops. The town also manufactures items such as wagons and saddles from horse hair and buffalo hide materials. The original inhabitants of this area were the Osage Indians who lived until after white settlement arrived in what is now Arkansas in 1755 CE. After purchase by Anglo-Americans in 1814 CE, these land owners were called "Creek" or "Arkansas." Creek Indian Territory stretched along present day Arkansas from east to west for about 160 miles (250 km). In 1830 CE, J.D. Russell moved his family from Missouri to what is now Pulaski County when he became sheriff of that county at the suggestion of Judge James Hensley (1796-1867). He donated one million acres (500 km2) to be used as open range country for cattleraising; this included 500 sq mi (1 km2) of present day Pulaski County which became known as "Russell's Prairie." A post office was established at Russelville on July 10, 1832; it remained operational until 1886 when it was renamed Benton Springs.. In 1840 CE, Wm Davenport & Company organized the first bank west of Kansas City with $10 000 capitalization; this bank operated out of Russelville until 1907 when it merged into First National Bank west thereof.. By 1890 CE there were over twenty lumberyards operating within 20 miles (30 km) radius including Russelville; all but two closed by 1900 CE due to lack demand for lumber during aneconomic depression.. On January 15th 1902 US Post Office officials traveled through Russelville on their way northward on I-40 to Little Rock en route to Jackson where they delivered mail between that city and Benton Springs... When US Post Office officials returned southbound on I-40 they found no mail waiting for them at Benton Springs so they turned back home... They walked back up I-40 3 hours later only to find that all but one logging company had closed because their product no longer competed with traditional lumber being produced elsewhere... On October 16th 1904 US Post Office officials again traveled through Russelille while en route northward on I-40: they delivered mail betweenJackson and Fort Smith... When they arrived back at Russett they found that four different companies - three loggeries and one sawmill - had reopened so US Postal Officials decided not pursue restarting any more post offices in Russelille after all!

The community struggled during the 1840s due to the Panic of 1847, but managed to stay afloat thanks to its strong economy. However, the Panic of 1857 caused many businesses in town to close their doors, and by 1860 Russellville had only 100 residents. However, through booming trade with nearby Fayetteville and Little Rock, Russellville continued to grow until it reached its current size of around 3000 residents in 1900.
