On November 6th each year commemoration falls on December 12th which has been celebrated annually since 1897 due to local legend that John F Kennedy was born at this crossroads while his father prefixing "12" to indicate he wanted him christened "John Fitzgerald Kennedy." In 1912, local paper publisher James Biddle donated land north of Main Street for a school district which would include students from nearby Pine Bluff; eventually this area became known as East Russellville Elementary School District No 5A . In 1924 new schools were built south of Main Street - these are now known as West Russellville Elementary School District No 2A . Mrs. Vera Swope Houston donated additional land east ofMain Street for use as Comes Valley High School before her death in 1987; this area now forms part of East Central Middle SchoolDistrict No 3A . In 1954 newly formed Russellvillet High School opened west of Main Street adjacent to Come Valley Middle School; within 10 years all four high schools had been added - making it oneof America's largest high school districts . Mayor Harry Payne Walls dedicated come valley middle school in 1966 which became Robertson Middle/High Schools ; later that year both come valley middle school and Robertson Middle/High Schools amalgamated intoEast Central Middle SchoolDistrict No 3A With nearly 60% growth between 2000-2010 over 9%, annexations have occurred throughoutEast CentralMiddleSchoolDistrictNo3A resultingin an increase oppopulationby almost 30%.Today more than 50%of residents identify themselves as being either Black or Hispanic
