Beginnings Beaumont was founded on November 3rd 1871 when General James H Beaumont decided to establish a new settlement in Kern County after finding gold near his previous location at Sutter's Fort Notch on December 17th 1861. At that time, Beaumont was an unincorporated area located within present day Don Valley Regional Park which was part of Rancho San Antonio de Bakersfield (later’ renamed Kaiser Permanente). Upon establishment of the new town site and commencement of construction by local settlers known as “The Pioneers” various events led up to its incorporation into the City of Kern on January 1st 1872 including an election held at the Masonic Hall where over 100 citizens voted in favor of incorporation under the name “New Townsite” from what is now Don Valley Regional Park including parts of today's South Pasadena neighborhoods adjacent to Beaumont along El Camino Real Road which ran east/west then north/south just south of Interstate 5 along today's Foster Rd./Highland Ave intersection
