They named their new location "Holster Alley" after one of their founders, John Holster. In 1887, Cerritos holster manufacturer George A. Smith started making holsters in his home kitchen. By 1897, he had moved to 159 North 4th Street and name his company "George A. Smith & Sons." In 1912, George A. Smith died and his son, Harry C. Smith took over the business as president and CEO until his death in 1970. In 1955, David Laughlin opened up a leather goods store on South Green Avenue in Cerritos which became known as David Laughlin Leather Company. In 1966, the firm was sold to Ewell Firearms Corporation which continued to make holsters under the name Ewell Firearms Corporation until it was acquired by American Defense Corp. in 1985. The company ceased operations in 1990).

On January 8, 1888, General Husted's son George Washington Husted became Mayor of Los Angeles and assumed control over cerrito affairs until his father could return to duty Oct 1st that year after being removed from duty due to pneumonia caused by yellow fever pandemic then prevalent across much of America during this time frame In 1889 Gussie Wernham bought 640 acres (240 ha) adjoining Jameson Rancho Seco east of Avenida de los Americas for $5,000 from José Figueroa y Guerra who had acquired it from Antonio Moreno about two years earlier Wernham named his tract "Wernham Mesa" after himself which he conveyed to Willard Swayne on February 12th 1896 A water tower and pumping station were built northwest of present day Citrus Avenue between 1912 and 1914 for use by farmacia Estrada de Hierro et al.. After annexation by Los Angeles County on December 24th 1913 water services were extended to Cerritos through Orange Grove Road . For many years prior to annexation there was only a single store open at Citrus Avenue which served primarily agricultural customers
