Ammunition history in Chino Hills, California begins with the first shot heard in the area on December 6th, 1892 when a group of men from Chino Hills opened fire on an adobe fortification known as Fort Tejon. The men were part of a militia unit called the "Chino Hills Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Club." The fort was demolished after the shooting, but not before sustaining damage that included five rounds impacting within two feet of the entrance. The first bullets to be fired from firearms in Chino Hills were those used by members of the "Chino Hills Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Club" during an engagement at Fort Tejon on December 6th, 1892. These rifle rounds are still preserved today at Chino Hills Municipal Recreation Area where they can be toured and viewed. Chino Hills, California is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California. It is located in the eastern portion of the city of Riverside. As of the 2010 census, its population was 126. Chino Hills is located about 24 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and about 15 miles northeast of ZIP Code 90022. The community was founded on November 10, 1911 by George Wills and his wife Lillie Klyde Willoughby as Chino Hills Farms. The name "Chino" originated from two places – one in Orange County, California where Rancho San Marcos had been established in 1847, and another place near Chino Valley in Inyo County which was first mentioned as early as 1795. The rancho was acquired by José Joaquin Cámpora on November 6, 1854 when he purchased what are now known as portions of Rancho San Bernardino from Juan Bautista de Anza. On December 12, 1912 the town site was surveyed and platted by local surveyor Wirt Hodge under the name "Chinatown". On January 1, 1913 Chinatown became incorporated with a population of 100 residents. The first post office opened at 2107 E Street on January 3rd; it closed on October 4th due to high mail volume (the last post office to close occurred on September 14th). In 1923 Chinatown voted to become an independent city with a population over 200 residents instead of continuing to be part of Riverside until it adopted its own charter on May 8th that year. However, this ordinance did not take effect until 1924 because incorporation didn't come into effect until then according to state law governing cities formed after 1920 without voter approval or consent - a situation that continued through much of Southern California during this time period since annexation ordinances were determined at county level subject only to state law governing unincorporated areas inside counties which often consisted largely of agricultural land west Of Los Angeles along with smaller communities such as Palm Springs and Yucca Valley within Ventura County while larger metropolitan areas such as Pasadena were led by their mayor or City Councils who held ultimate authority over all aspects including municipal government with exceptions being made for water resources which were managed by county officials pursuant to agreements between them and private landowners
