Chino Hills is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 67,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Gabriel Valley and lies on the eastern edge of downtown Los Angeles. The area that now makes up Chino Hills was originally settled by Anglo-Mexican Californios in the mid-19th century as Rancho San Vicente. In 1887, Ramon Cisneros donated 200 acres (80 ha) of what would become Chino Hills to the City of Los Angeles for municipal use. The first residents were English immigrant laborers who worked on Pico Boulevard and Vinegar Hill Road. By 1928, most of Chino Hills had been annexed by the city and it became a municipio (municipality). In 1951, Chino Hills incorporated as a city under state law which allowed for more restrictive zoning laws than those used in many other cities at that time. At that time there were only 7 shopping centers within its boundaries; today there are over 50 shopping centers within its borders alone! In 1984, City Councilman Gil Cedillo introduced legislation to annex all of Baldwin Park into Chino Hills; this proposal failed but Cedillo's effort led to passage in 1987 of an ordinance creating Riverside Park adjacent to Community College District No. 2 which later became known as Northridge Park/Chino Hills campus

Chino Hills is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 26,402 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The name "Chino Hills" comes from Spanish meaning "little castle." The first European to come through this area was José Gabriel García Márquez who wrote about it in his novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. In 1853, General Antonio López de Santa Anna made a crossing of the mountains and discovered what would later become Chino Hills. He named it after his old home province of Nueva Vizcaya in Spain. Mexican Americans founded homes here beginning in the early 1800s as ranching operations boomed following gold discoveries in Northern California and Southern Nevada. By 1880, Chino Hills had over 100 residents and several businesses including an insurance company and post office had been established. In 1892, John Sutter located a mine on Hacienda La Brea near present day Chino Hills and began developing the lands that now make up Chino Hills into a farming community with orchards and vineyards producing wine for local consumption as well as export to Europe and other parts of America. Many people who worked at Sutter's mine continued their work after he died including Father Ranald Macdonald who built one of North America’s first Catholic missions in what is now Rancho Cucamonga just south of Chino Hills in 1906. The early days at Sutter's mine were challenging with very little water available for irrigation purposes which contributed to high yields from the grapes being grown hereabouts but also led to some controversy due to allegations that water quality was poor enough for human consumption despite assurances by management that nothing could go wrong! As production increased however over time more money began flowing into town coffers making public improvements such as sewers, lighting etc., while private enterprise took care of everything necessary for everyday living such as groceries shopping etcetera without any government subsidy whatsoever! Today there are numerous restaurants within walking distance (within minutes if you're lucky) both chain operations ( Subway , Wendy's ) as well as independents (the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf ). There are also many small businesses dotting every nook & cranny providing services ranging from mechanic work to artisanship - something you'll find especially prevalent around downtown which has undergone a significant redevelopment project over recent years spearheaded by Mayor Eric Garcetti with assistance from various philanthropists/ donors including Scripps Howard Broadcasting Company chairman David Geffen . Downtown has seen an influx of young professionals drawn by its affordable housing options, excellent schools – both public and private – lively nightlifeOptions (from live music all the way down to Late Night Dining ), Arts District atmosphere & lots more!
Chino Hills began as a small agricultural community in 1884. It became a major manufacturing center during the early 20th century and was home to many of California's largest companies. The town had declined by the 1930s, but regained some of its former prominence in the 1950s when it became an appellate court seat. Chino Hills has since experienced significant decline, with most of the town being destroyed in a fire in 1965.
