Half Moon Bay is a small town in Marin County, California. The population was 5,555 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is home to the Half Moon Bay Bridge and USS Half Moon Bay Museum. The area now known as Half Moon Bay was part of Rancho San Francisco de Anza (now part of Marin County) until 1821 when it became part of United States Territory of California. In 1882, Jens Christensen opened his restaurant and bar at 151 Main Street which later became called Christensen's Pub & Grille. From 1886-1988, Danish immigrant Ole Pedersen ran an ice cream parlor at 901 Main Street which became popular with locals for its sorbetes (icesicles). In 1907 owner Julius Kronborg donated land adjacent to his grocery store to make room for what would become Kaiser's Supermarket; this building still stands today across from the beachfront park that includes half a dozen restaurants and bars including Pizzeria Rialto and Bottega Veneta. During World War II Naval Officers' Quarters were built at Point Reyes Station on purpose as an airfield for use by Navy bombers flying missions over North America from RAF Angel Island in British Columbia; these buildings still stand today near shoreline along Point Reyes Road. Afternoon sunsets are especially beautiful here due to intense coastal fog bank created by outgoing waves crashing against cliffsides creating bands of deep red/orange coloration visible from many miles away; around midnight there can be glimpsesof fireflies if skies are clear enough!

It is the second most populous city in Marin County after Sausalito and it is also the largest city on the Peninsula. The first European to visit Half Moon Bay was Mariano Vallejo in 1769. He thought it looked like a "half moon" because of its shape and named it for this feature on his map of Northern California. The nickname "Half Moon Bay" began to be used locally for refer to parts of San Francisco Bay where there were no Moonlighting beaches or nightlife as yet, but now offer both these things. In 1853, Half MoonBay was incorporated as part of what would become Marin County. The name may have been chosen because there are two Moons – one larger than the other - in Marina del Rey and Half Moon Bay are both located near Point Reyes National Seashore which makes for an interesting double-name since Point Reyes appearing twice (Marinas Del Rey & Half Moon Bay) might make some people think that two separate towns were merged into one place...or at least that's how I reasoned at the time! Today, much has changed about Half Moon Bay since its incorporation into Marin County more than 125 years ago: shopping malls dotting every corner; lively nightlife centered around Pier 39; and even more recent arrivals including high-tech startups and college students who commute into North Beach or Fisherman's Wharf nearby. Yet despite all these distractions from what once was a sleepy seaside town, many aspects of local history remain unchanged: A rich maritime history dating back to when sailors stopped by for refreshment hereabouts during their long trips across San Francisco bay; beautiful views overlooking Point Reyes National Seashore from many homes hereabouts; centuries-old trees liningStreets throughout Old Town; extensive artist studios dotting many blocks downtown; plus strong community ties that continue today among residents who share common interests such as music festivals, hiking/ kayaking/ fishing etc., making HalfmoonBay one of those special places where you feel right at home from morning until night - whether you're out enjoying fresh air or staying put for dinner!
