Half Moon Bay is a small town located in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is bordered by Half Moon Bay to the north and east, Sausalito to the south and west, and Tiburon to the northwest. The name "Half Moon Bay" comes from two places: one is on a small island in Tiburon Strait between Half Moon Island and Sausalito Point; another is onshore near where Highway 1 meets Half Moon Beach Boulevard. The first place may have been derived from an incident in 1853 involving two American sailors who were erroneously arrested for robbery while ashore at HalfMoon Cove on Sausalito Peninsula. The second place likely derives from moonrise or moonset at night during summertime when light shines through breaks in the clouds. A later history has it that someone changed "half moon" into "moon bay" because they found it difficult to pronounce "bay". Most people believe that either of these names came about as early residents began referring to their community as such because of its location close to both famous landmarks - including Sausalito Point (where American author Nathaniel Hawthorne lived) and Tiburon Strait (which connected San FranciscoBay with Marin County). However, there are no documentary evidence that suggests this was actually true until after World War II when locals started boasting about their community's assets which included excellent fishing grounds, beautiful beaches, large open spaces etc... In fact, according to some estimates up until 1990 Half Moon Bay's population numbered under 500 people! Addition of Interstate 80 made travel much easier for residents but unfortunately also brought with it increased traffic noise due to construction projects nearby - most notably Candlestick Park which was built on land once occupied by Hacienda de las Pulgas Adobe Reserve Preserve - causing some locals to leave for greener pastures down the coast. Today however despite pockets of poverty remaining scattered throughout many streets & neighborhoods there are still many active & engaged citizens who work hard every day making sure that things stay vibrant & interesting in this increasingly digital world...

Half Moon Bay is a small town located in Marin County, California. It was incorporated on October 1, 1887 and has been the seat of Half Moon Bay Municipal District since December 15, 1916. The name comes from the half moon shape of its bay which can be seen from many parts of the town. The first known inhabitants of Half Moon Bay were Native Americans who lived near present-day Sausalito. In 1792, Spanish missionaries discovered and named Half Moon Bay after a full moon that night. By 1836, the native people had all left for good and Half Moon Bay became part of Humboldt County. In 1887, local businessmen realized they could get more business by having their town incorporation registered with the state as an independent city. They decided to call it "HalfmoonBay". The first mayor was Wm Sargent and the first vice president was Prentice Coleman. The economy of HalfmoonBay grew quickly due to its location and access to fresh water resources nearby. Many new businesses were founded in this time including a bakery and cheese factory, both owned by Mayor Coleman himself. The population reached 10,000 by World War II but began to decline after that war as most jobs went overseas or were lost in World War II itself. However, during The 60's & 70's many businesses such as restaurants started up around town which helped keep things ticking over until today when it has experienced rapid growth again thanks to online shopping and tourism alike!
