Kerman is a small town in the Inland Empire of California, located about an hour's drive north of Los Angeles. The population was 4,569 at the 2010 census. The first post office was established in 1907 with one mailbox at 7th Street and C Streets NW. A second post office opened at 9th Street NW in 1911; it closed down due to World War I hostilities. A telephone exchange was established serving both Kerman area (northwest corner of 2nd Avenue SW) and parts of San Bernardino County on September 3rd 1926 by Southern California Telephone Company Limited under contract from Western Electric Company Ltd., parent company of AT&T Corporation who had acquired Southern California Telephone Company Limited operatorship on August 24th 1925 pursuant to a purchase agreement between Western Electric Company Ltd., parent company of AT&T Corporation, Messrs John Doryell (owner), Ernest Hogue (operator) and Eugene Wojciechowski (manager). From 1924 until 1990 when it was taken over by Northern California Telephone Cooperative Association predecessor BellSouth Communications Co.), KPTV broadcasted live daily news updates from Stockton CA through two transmitters atop Mt Diablo overlooking Redding CA - one sites atop Mount Shasta east side near Highway 395 entrance US 101 exit opposite River Road exit southbound before switching towers mid-air on June 3rd 1984 just after sunset while flying over Redding CA during our final weeknight air show backdropped by beautiful Yosemite Valley flooring
