Webb became the first white person to reside in Kerman when he moved from Lodi with his family after purchasing 160 acres (60 hectares) of Rancho Adobe Mexican land grant from José Hector Ortiz y Ortega He built his home on what is now Main Street and started an agricultural business which he ran until his death in 1922 In 1924-1928 Winton J. Webb's wife Alma bought acreage north of present day Main Street off Dairy Road from her father-in-law John Hoeffer She established what is now known as "Alma's Addition" into one large house with five bedrooms and six bathrooms . Mrs Weaver also operated her own grocery store beginning in 1925 which she still operates today under the name "Alma's Grocery". Along with Winton J.'s wife Alma came their son Ralph A., born 1928; daughter Barbara M., born 1930; granddaughter Julie P., born 1932; grandson John F., born 1938 Also during this time period other families such as the Salinas family moved into or around Kerman including Joe Salinas Sr., Sr.'s brother Carlos Mesa Jr., Tita Mesa (Diaz), Manuel Diaz (Mendez), Pedro Mena (Cordero), Juan Garcia (Garcia) all of whom were instrumental in building up what are now some of Kern County’s most important businesses including First National Bank and Chevron Corporation . From these early pioneers many more families participated over ensuing years both inside and outside of Kerson joining them through marriage or adoption over time culminating with establishment of today’s vibrant community with its original downtown core consisting of two blocks long Front Street flanked by busy Second and Third streets Meeting Hall Square across from Gassen High School east side comprising residential areas along East West Highway

In 1903, Kerman lost its status as a town because it could not keep up with population growth within Sacramento County. In 1955, Kerman became part of the newly created city of Redding.
