Eventually, this area would be known as Mormon Town due to its religious affiliation with that denomination. In 1907, Laguna Niguel was incorporated as a town under the name of "Canyon Lakes". Itwould later change its name to "Laguna Niguel" after river mouth at Point Conception near where the townsite currently stands. The name stuck and has been used ever since for both local business purposes and for the general population's convenience - something that may be seen today as one of the most significant aspects about this small town's culture. During World War II, Laguna Niguel played an important role as a military airfield providing access to Southern California82 miles (130 kilometers) away from coastal targets during the Battle of Honshu (1939-1945). After Japan's surrender, much of Okinawa was taken over by Allied forces including Laguna Niguel which included many Japanese residents who were then forced into labor camps nearby until they were liberated by United States troops in 1945. Laguna Niguel is a small, rural town located in Orange County, California. The community of Laguna Niguel was founded in 1879 by Spanish settlers as part of the Rancho Los Nietos Mexican land grant given to José Asustín Cerón and Francisco J. Márquez. In 1905, the post office was established in the town and remained open until 1959. The first store on Laguna Niguel's main street was a grocery store called the San Pedro Store which opened in 1909. The first school in Laguna Niguel was built in 1912 and it served as a Catholic primary school until 1958 when it became an all-boys high school named Don Bosco High School. It closed in 1984 but reopened as an all-girl high school named Sierra Linda after Mrs. Linda Sánchez who operated the store from 1915 to 1964. From 1916 to 1924, Laguna Niguel had its own water system which was later replaced with water systems supplied by nearby Anaheim City Hall. In 1922, Don Bosco High School changed its name to Dana Point High School after then Mayor John Fenton Dana points out that there were no schools at Dana Point (then known as Port Costa) that could provide him with an appropriate name for his new school district. In 1943, during World War II, Dana Point High School became one of two military academies serving southern Orange County (the other being Westminster College). In 1951, following the passage of Measure P funding cuts that affected many local schools across Orange County including Dana Point HS., don Bosco High School merged into Dana point Elementary/Middle Schools District #1 becoming one of only three public schools within this district boundary still operating as full-time elementary/middle schools today! In 1957 don Bosco HS' doors opened onto what is now home plate at Angel Stadium; prior to this they used Whatcom Park which had been leased from Letcher Valley Water Company! In 1960 the original white oak tree located on Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue was cut down due to drought conditions caused by El Niño – although replacement trees have been grown since then! On July 8th 1963 during Festival week students from both Don Bosco and Dana point Elementary/Middle Schools Districts #1 participated together in a statewide "Take This Class" protest against low teacher pay rates set forth by Governor Ronald Reagan! A year later onOctober 15th 1965 DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL WAS OFFICIALLY nationalized through legislation passed by Congress making it an element of newly created Unified California Education Agency! From 1978 until 1984 DON BOSCO HIGH SCHOOL WAS OPERATED BY THE LAKERS OF LAGUNA NIGEL CA
