In 1916, General Pershing ordered all American forces stationed abroad to be disbanded and all arms must be turned over to the War Department so that Target Practice could resume within Continental United States! The mill also produced agricultural products such as flour and feed for livestock and served as a major transportation hub for goods arriving from out of state. During World War II, mills were used to produce munitions and other explosives. After the war ended, mill production stopped and many of the buildings were destroyed by fire or foreclosure. However, some of those structures remain standing including the old Post Office building which is now used as a library.
