In the early 1900s Newark, California had a thriving firearms industry. The community was home to many of the largest rifle and shotgun manufacturers in America. Many of these businesses were founded by immigrants who brought their firearms expertise with them when they arrived in North America. In addition to their rifles and shotguns, these businesses also made t-shirts that commemorate firearm history and culture. The first t-shirt company in Newark was Gun Dog T-Shirts. This company was started by twin brothers,John and Harry Gottfried, who were born in Germany and grew up Sporting Arms & Ammunition (GAA) Ltd., one of the largest sporting goods retailers in England. After serving in World War I, John Gottfried decided to move his business back to America and opened Gun Dog T-Shirts at 7th Street and New Market Road in Newark on November 15, 1919. The Gottfried brothers continued to operate their business until it closed its doors for good on December 1st, 1988. During the late 1800s most American citizens owned either swords or pistols because there were no firearms availablerie bartering between friends or trade shows between gunsmiths from different parts of America as there was not yet a widespread handgun market place as there is today. Pistol owners typically traded Firearms Commission certificates which allowed them to purchase handguns within three months of owning them instead of having to wait six months like they did now with swords/pistols. With this new system pistol ownership became more popular among men over 50 years old who could afford the arms but still preferred not get involved with street crime due to the high risk associated with carrying a blade vs robbing someone while wearing body armor! On October 22nd 1892 George Richards published an article titled "Toward a More Secure Future" which outlined how society should handle guns if it ever transitioned away from horse power into motor vehicles such as cars/trucks/planes etc.? Richards suggested that all handguns be registered with government officials so that law enforcement could track any illegal sales going on without having to rely on criminals! A few weeks later Richards met James Brady who would later become president of the United States! They discussed Richards' article further and together they created what would eventually become known as "The Brady Bill." This bill required all Americans 21 years or older must have a license from state authorities before buying any type of handgun!
