Additionally, during World War II many industries relocated to nearby Bakersfield including aircraft manufacturer Boeing Field which created some excellent local architecture along with other parts of Valley National Laboratory which are now part of UC Berkeley; these include Nobel Prize-winning physicist Abdus Salam whose laboratory occupied one building on campus from 1947 until his death in 1984.
