Scope mounts were first designed in the early 1800s to increase accuracy on rifles. After a few hundred years of use, they are still being used today to provide even more magnification for shooters. In 1892, San Buenaventura Ventura was renamed after General Ventura who fought in the Mexican-American War. The town was originally established as a farming community and served as a military base during the war. At that time, guns were only slightly more accurate than what people could build themselves and there wasn't much technology available to improve those accuracies. San Buenaventura Ventura is a small town located in Ventura County, California. According to the 2010 census, the population of San Buenaventura was 736. The name "San Buenaventura" means "happy valley." The first Europeans to visit this area were Spanish missionaries in 1776. The first permanent English settlement was made at Point Conception in 1821 by Capt. George Vancouver and his party on their way from Manila to North America. In 1843, David Teague built an adobe fort at what is now the corner of Third Street and First Avenue in San Buenaventura and named it Fort Teague after himself. In 1886, San Diego County became part of California and its first county seat was moved from Monterey to San Buenaventure as part of the new state boundaries. In 1907, when Ventura County was created, it included most of what is now San Buenaventura; however, until 1916 all of that territory lay within Los Angeles County
Scope mounts are a type of mount that allows the user adjustable magnification. They were first patented by Isaac Asimov in 1951. The first scope mounts were made from brass and plastic, but since then, many different types of mounts have been developed to allow for better optics and more flexibility when using rifles. Scope mounts are also often used on shotguns as a Shotgun Scope Mount (SMM).
The first expandable scope mount for a rifle was made by Winchester in 1903. The mount consisted of a threaded barrel connection and an armrest that could be rotated to adjust the magnification. After World War II, many manufacturers began to produce rifles with Scope Mounts (SM), which allowed the use of additional magnification devices other than eyepieces and telescopes. Some early examples include the Weaver-Williams telescope mounting system in 1951, and Charles Weiser's American Rifle Scope Mounting System in 1954. In 1957, Winchester introduced their own version of the SM called the "Winchester Model 601". This mount featured a recoil spring-loaded arm that allowed it to be attached directly to either side of a rifle barrel, making it very versatile for hunting or target shooting. In 1969, Remington introduced their own scope mounting system called the "Remington 700" which utilised one spoke on an A1 buttstock for attaching magnification devices such as turrets or mirrors; this allowed shooters to use any type of bipod without having to remove their receiver from the gun.Later in 1970, Brownells produced a scope mount known as the "Brownells BN4" which incorporated two Picatinny rail slots on either side of its base for attachment of various sighting tools including riflescopes and microscopes. This allowed users to attach multiple scopes or sights at once without having to swap out parts. It also became popular among precision shooters due to its ease of use and robustness. In 1975, Bushnell released their own scope mounts known as the "Bushnell BX6", which incorporated two Lombard screws into its baseplate for attaching optics such as binoculars or night vision equipment. These mounts were later replaced by Bushnell's current design known as the BCMhack Series III."
San Buenaventura Ventura, California was founded on September 17, 1897 by a group of people who were looking to improve their lives. The town was named after San Miguel de Allende in Mexico City and it was one of the first settlements in the area that would eventually become Ventura County. The early settlers were primarily Italian immigrants who worked on the local farms and businesses. In 1912, San Buenaventura Ventura became part of the City of Los Angeles. By 1915, however, there were more than 1,000 residents in the small town and it had started to develop into a residential community with several stores, a post office and a few schools. In 1916, voters approved a $5 million bond issue to build new homes for citizens of Los Angeles County. This event is often referred to as the Birth of Ventura County because it helped set off what would be an eventful history for the town. In 1933, San Buenaventura Ventura became part of the newly formed city of Santa Paula when Los Angeles County was split into three parts between Orange County (in Southern California) and San Bernardino County (in Northern California). At this time, Ventura County began to grow rapidly as subdivisions were developed around its smalltown feel. In 1940, Mayor Manuel Gomez created what is now known as "Gomez Park" in honor of his predecessor who had also died young at only 42 years old. After World War II ended and many military families returned home from overseas duty, they began buying up land near downtown Santa Paula and setting up homes along Central Avenue which became known as "The Strip". This development led to increased traffic congestion on Central Avenue which led to the creation of two streets - Western Ave./Central Ave., later renamed Gomez Way/Santa Paula Blvd., which served as access roads for homeowners along The Strip. Almost 50 years later (2009), these streets are still important transportation arteries for professionals living in downtown Santa Paula with easy access to freeway exits or BART stations nearby
On October 15, 1847, the Mexican government ceded control of the southern California Missions to American settlers. The area now known as Ventura County was part of Alta California. On November 6, 1848, the first official census in California was taken and found that Ventura County had a population of 582 people. The county seat was Los Angeles
