In the early 1800s, shooters in San Buenaventura Ventura were using various hearing protectors to protect their ears. San Buenaventura Ventura is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and is the county seat of Ventura County. The name San Buenaventura comes from Old Spanish meaning "Beautiful Mountain". The first European to visit what is now Ventura County was Gaspar de Portolà in 1769. He named it after San Miguel de Allende, one of his stops on his journey up the California Coast. It wasn't until 1821 that Captain John Thornton discovered and named Santa Barbara Island after Saint Barbara of Cana, mother of Jesus Christ. In 1838, Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna established an adobe town called San Buenaventura on the present day site of downtown Ventura. Three years later, however, he abandoned it because of lack of water supplies and moved his headquarters to Monterey Bay. In 1848, Don José Francisco Yáñez founded a mission at Rancho La Purísima Concepción near modern-day Camarillo (now College Park). On July 16th, 1850 Fray Junípero Serra arrived with eleven others from Mexico City as missionaries to establish a new missions district called Rancho Dos Rios Jurupa del Conejo y los Olivos beside present-day Oxnard (Rancho Gordiano) in southern Ventura County next to Mission San Gabriel Arcángel which had been founded by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. This mission district became known as La Purísima Concepción because its founders were so pure minded about God's plan for their region that they refused any outside interference whatever shape or form it might take-. In 1857 another group led by Father David Ferrer reached this area but foundered due to economic problems caused by overpopulation and lack of resources; nonetheless they left behind two small Missions: Nuestra Señora de las Nieves (Our Lady Of The Rocks) on Goleta Creek east side of I-5 just south of Camarillo and Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Our Lady Of Carmel) located on Mission Road northwest side north of Trabuco Canyon between SR 195/US 101 & SR 167 just northeast cornerof Los Padres National Forest adjacent Thousand Oaks Open Space Preserve formerly administered by University Park District; both Missions are now operated by Catholic Charities USA http://www-catholiccharitiesusa.org/. Srnaquel Penalosa who also served as rector during this time at Our Lady Of NPDS later become bishop suffrage Bishop José Gomez Olivas among other titles conferred upon him including cardinal archbishop emeritus.. A year later Mexico achieved its independence from Spain and appointed Simón Bolívar Presidente which created many opportunities for missionaries especially those working within Mexico proper such as Father Fernando Rivera who went into Northern Baja California Sur where he founded Mission Don Carlos Pico in 1876(See: Fernando Rivera biography website). When California attained statehood in 1850s there was much interest within both countries due to potential territorial gains made since Mexican officials claimed most if not all present day Southern California except rolling hills around Lompoc Meadows belonged rightfully belonging exclusively Mexicans while American citizens were content just looking out for their own interests primarily along coastal communities like Newport Beach etc... Ear plugs were not effective at stopping gunfire since they would still be able to resonate through the unprotected ears of someone wearing them. The first true shooting ear muffs were developed in the 1800s by an American inventor named George Stephenson who designed a type ofEar Muff that could fit over both ears like a helmet and was made out of cloth, leather, or felt so it did not cause skin irritation when worn for long periods of time. These earlyEar Muffs had three small metal cups that fit over the user’s ears and blocked all but very small noises from reaching his/her brain. In 1892, an Englishman named Alfred Milne patented a system called “Milne Ear Muff” which consisted of two flexible rubber disks that were placed over one’s ears while wearing any type of head covering such as a hat or veil (MILNE 1895). This device was much more effective than traditional ear muffs in reducing gunshots and other loud noises reaching their users because it did not rely on metallic cups which could rust or corrode over time.
