After years of growth during World War II due to wartime production in nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base (now Joint Base Alameda-Dulles) and other military installations throughout southern CA., many businesses moved out or closed down during the postwar boom while others flourished such as The Lighthouse Bar & Grill which remains open today making it one of Santa Barbara's oldest continuously operating businesses dating back to 1924! However, although post-war prosperity brought new development including several high schools (including Ventura High School), shopping malls sprang up along I-5 with their own professional sports teams (!), vast amounts of housing developments went up without much public input or affordable access for ordinary citizens; instead developers got away with building massive luxury towers overlooking downtown streets while often taking advantage OFN'S Historic Tax Credits which had been created specifically FOR THIS TYPE OF DEVELOPMENT! Furthermore too often tax revenues generated by downtown business licenses have gone towards support services rather than being invested locally - again typical issues facing so many recent urban development projects elsewhere across America... pretty much typical stuff going on all over this darned place you might say! I'm sorry if I sound like an entitled brat but this just doesn't feel right to me...does anyone else thing maybe something could be done about it?

It was founded on December 17, 1805 by Pedro Cachuma and Juan Bautista Alvarado as part of Rancho Santa Barbara y Los Penitentes. As time passed and more people moved into this area, it became necessary to establish several governments because there weren't any definitive boundaries between day counties orranchos and municipalities. As a result, on July 1st 1835, the first definite government in what would become Santa Barbara County was created when Jose Joaquín Benito Pico-morales divided it into three parts: El Centro (the center), La Jolla (the side near Surfside), y San Ysidro (the outer tip). By 1850 much had changed since those early days including increased population density due to ranching activities; development occurred along both coastal streets inland from Mission Bay while inland streets led out to ocean beaches at Playa del Carmen/Isla Del Rey parallel with Avenida General Antonio López de Ayala west of present day downtown; pueblo becoming an autonomous municipality under Mexican rule but continuing its relationship with Madridzonate form of government until 1860 when Mexico ceded all Californias east of the Isthmus to America by way of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Another impetus for growth during this period came about through entrepreneurs such as Hiram Waddell who opened up new goldfields in central California; he leased 400 acres () adjacent to Deep Springs Creek in 1861 from Captain James Cook for 10 years beginning February 26th that year New Albion Hotel built on property now occupied by State University buildings began operations January 6th 1865 Thereafter steady progress continued with various mills being established including Sarnoff & Co., Maytag Manufacturing Company electric lights developed from 1865 onwards until 1903 Roper Coal Mining Company was organized November 15th 1870 dry goods store operated by John Aiken & Bros.; extensive real estate holdings developed including 12 square miles () today’s downtown core consisting principally of high rises overlooking Mission Bay Third Street leading southward terminated at Point Conception Park where naval station once stood later lighted up by gaslight Amoskeag Elevator opened December 7th 1901 eventually becoming City Hall building currently used as the Campus Recreation Center First Avenue southwesterly terminating at Plaza Community College
