In 1941 Christensen Brothers also manufactured their own reflex rangefinder telescopes utilizing an 8x42mm objective lens fitted onto a tripod! These units soon became known as "The Viking". During World War II many companies produced military spotting scopes such as Schmidt & Bender Incorporated who produced models ranging from 2-6x50mm objectives up to 10x44mm field turrets. Some famous commercial brands that sold military spotting Scopes during WWII include Rheinmetall America Corp., Tokyo Marui USA Inc., Heineken USA etc. Many wartime surplus rifles were converted into spotters by removing the action and stock assembly and installing a spotting scope; some notable examples include: M1 Garand series rifles converted by John Weislinger of Belleville Illinois into Spotters Guns; PTR Industries’ H&K USP carbine conversion service that utilized .22lr ammunition fed through Browning Hi-power barrels; Winchester Model 94 sniper rifles suffering conversions by Don Sowers III at his shop located adjacent to Fort Benning Army Base in Georgia into Spotters Guns
