The first humans to live in what is now Suisun City were the Ohlone people who lived from before 8400 BC. The first European settlers arrived in 1851 and named it after Count Adolfo Suárez de la Vega, one of the conquerors of Mexico City under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. In 1853, Don Pedro Fonseca founded Rancho Cucamonga, which became part of Suisun City in 1895 when it was separated from Los Altos Hills east of downtown and annexed by the city. In 1906, Mayor John McLaren proposed that Suisun become a city because its location on a peninsula made it an ideal spot for business and industry; he reasoned that if the city could attract businesses and industries then nearby towns would have to compete with Suisun for jobs and economic development. On July 20, 1907, voters passed a charter amendment creatingSuisun as a city with a population of 25,000 people. The original boundaries included all modern-day neighborhoods except for North Beach – which was annexed into Oakland during annexation - making it one large area today when compared to other cities such as San Francisco or Oakland where individual neighborhoods exist within larger areas known as districts or wards. The incorporation process forSuisun began on December 16, 1907; by 1913 there had been 687 applications received for incorporation (of which only 122 were accepted). On February 17th 1916 Mayor John McLaren called an election to determine whether or not to annex North Beach intoSuisunsudowntown boundary; following his proposal 98% of residents voted yes (though they still retain their veto power over zoning changes). A year later on May 5th 1917 Mayor John McLaren announced that Annexation had occurred effective immediately due to lack of voter opposition; this event marks the beginning of what is now known as DowntownSanFrancoisco history while also marking the start of what would eventually be Known as the American Dream era for many young immigrants who came to work in downtowns across America during this time including those who would make their home inSuissuncity over decades later while others continue to reside throughout these same districts today known affectionately as "Downtown Districts".
