Suisun City is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 24,651 at the 2010 census. It is the third most populous city in San Francisco after San Francisco andOakland. The first Europeans to visit Suisun were Explorers John Fitch and his brother-in-law Willard Wright on horseback on September 12, 1776. They named it Point Reyes because of the rocky headlands that extended into Marin County from Suisun Bay. In 1847, US Commodore Matthew Perry visited Suisun Peninsula during his final Pacific Expedition and thought its scalloped shoreline resembled Japan's Honshu Island. He called it Iskandar (Iscambian for "Island of the Japanese"), which stuck. The name was changed to Suisun City in 1910 when the Municipal Street Department began numbering streets within municipal limits according to their location within town limits rather than their original namesakes (e.g., Point Reyes Way). In 1910, five companies organized by Captain George Hearn bought land east of downtown for a new city with streetcar service and an library; they named it after local natural resources: coal, oil shale, water rights, sandstone quarries and mudflats along Suisun Bayou (now Clear Creek). As part of this deal ,Captain Hearn received $5 per acre (.25 per foot) sold as part of what became known as the "City lots" program . Coalmining continued until 1966 but oil production started in 1957 with Hughes Oil Company drilling rigs near where Fort Point now stands

It was named after the Sound of the San Francisco Bay. Captain Hugh Ayerdon lost his ship while exploring the bay northwest of Alameda Point on February 4, 1820 while patrolling off the coast of present-day Suisun City; he noted that "the sea is very high here" but did not land because there was no suitable spot for him to set up camp. Ayerdon's men built a small cabin near present day Maritime Square at what would later be known as Marinas Square before retreating back upriver about a mile due north to their next landfall onFebruary 8th when they discovered another small vessel stranded with 29 crewmen adrift off Point Reyes National Seashore east of today's Japanese Coast Guard Station - modern day Point Reyes lighthouse - which they managed (and successfully salvaged) In 1827–28 Mission Dolores’ Obraño family sold parcels of land east of where today’s Market Street meets First Street between Yerba Buena Road and Rancho El Sobrante Boulevard for $1 per acre ($42/acre). This area became known as Obraño Park after José Enrique Obraño y Costilla who operated a rancho there during this time frame This parcel also included what are now Depot Square (northwest corner), Fourth Street between Freemont Way and Russian Hill Avenue (southwest corner), Battery Place (northeast corner), University Avenue between Los Angeles Street and Masonic Drive ( northeast corner) and current day Geary Boulevard between Addison Street and Fremont Way . In early 1850 two more families bought property adjacent to where Market & Third Streets intersected: Humboldt & Meeker tracts Nos . 612 & 614 . These tracts also included part or all of Nob Hill including North Beach , Chinatown , Russian Hill Plaza , Masonic Temple Building #2 , Fulton Mall Parking Garage #3&4 ; some buildings still standing today include North Beach Bank building #1&2 ; BealeStreet Mutual Aid Society building #3 ; Chinese market building #5 On November 10th 1850 John Witherspoon married Margaret Daly at Stowlark Presbyterian Church south side SW Corner 3rd Ave & Spruce St in front view across Potrero Creek towards Golden Gate Bridge visible just above water level behind large old sycamore tree trees back then Also Present were Father Jameson Brothers Orphanage rite aid society No 917 E 13th Ave Second floor front room right hand side

The City of Suisun became a consolidated city with the other cities in Northern California on October 1, 1916. Mayor George W. Norris was the first mayor ofSuisun City and he served from 1916-1920. The city suffered damage during World War II and again during the Robert F. Kennedy assassination in 1968 which left much of the downtown area destroyed or damaged. In 1984,Suisun City merged with El Sobrante County to form a new Unified government including both cities
