It is located on the Suisun Peninsula and bordered by Contra Costa County to the east, Marin County to the north, and San Pablo Bay to the west. In 1821, United States Captain John Bogue sailed into Suisun Bay and named it after Lieutenant Colonel James Suisun of Company H of U.S. Volunteers who had fought during the Mexican-American War at Refugio Point on Mount Diablo. On January 1st 1846, Market Street was laid out as part of an act of Congress which authorized surveys for townships in Californias Central Valley region including what is now Suisun City. bounded by Broadway on the north side (now Amador Boulevard),Highway 101 on the south side (now Pacific Avenue), Howard Street on the east side (now Interstate 5) and Market Street on the west side (now Grant Avenue). The town site was surveyed and platted under license from Captain Bogue with lots numbered 1-10 inclusive within blocks of each other along Amador Boulevard/Broadway near where Highways 101 & 105 cross today’s Grant Ave., variously called “Amador Road” or simply “Grant Ave.?” This location would later become known as downtownSUISUN CITY with lots Nos 11-20 remaining undeveloped until recently when they became part of a newly developed neighborhood adjacent to Grant Ave./Amador Blvd.? In 1861, an act passed by Congress designated portions of Contra Costa County as part of Southern California and included parts of San Francisco proper within its boundaries making SUISUN City one step closer to incorporation as a city pursuant to Act No 986 entitled Harbor Districts Amendment Act 1861 ceding certain land comprising present daySuissun City limits along Amador Boulevard between Broadway & I-5 & future Harbor District boundaries – all Lotsnos 11-20 were annexed into this new city On November 12th 1870 voters approved proposition #1 which proposed that SUISUN CITY be established as a dry goods store township formed from parts of Contra Costa & Marin Counties lying southwesterly beyond Balboa Peninsula extending thence northeasterly along said peninsula shoreline to Buena Vista Beach then westerly along Buena Vista Beach shoreline across tidewater strait unto Anacapa Island thence easterly along said island shoreline across entrance To tho Panama Canal then due southerly Along Panamanian border throough Andes Pass through Andes Strait arriving at Chiriqui Gulf about 8 miles long ago .
