Gunlocks were once a common means of securing firearms in the United States. Many states have laws in place that require gunlocks to be installed on all guns sold or rented within their borders. These locks are often called "gun-lock cylinders" and are typically made from brass, plastic, or metal. The purpose of these locks is usually to prevent unauthorized access to a firearm by someone who is not authorized to own it. Gunlocks are still used today in some parts of the US, specifically in California and Oregon. In California, law enforcement officers may use gunlocks as part of an effort to prevent mass shootings. Gunlock manufacturers also offer these locks for sale to civilians in these states.
There are many different types of gun locks available on the market. The most common type of gun lock is a keylock. A keylock requires the use of a key to open it. Gun locks with a combination lock require both keys to be used in order to open it. A combination lock has twolocking devices that can be set up so that only one key can enter at a time, and the second key is required to change the locking device. Combinations can be broken down into two groups: those with four or more working parts, and those with just three working parts.
The first guns to be locked up in West Covina were pistols. A group of men, led by James W. Sweeney, gathered around the barrel of a gun and put it back in its holster to take it to a store for sale. The first store to sell handguns was the Western Gun Shop on Elmira Avenue in West Covina on October 5, 1903. In 1911, the Armory opened at 7th and Industrial Streets in West Covina and soon began selling rifles as well. It was not until 1923 that handguns became legal in California.

He also served as mayor of Hollywood from 1918 to 1920 and 1924 to 1928. In 1912, he donated land for what is now downtown West Covina, which began construction soon afterwards. The first blocks were dedicated on December 5th 1912 with Mayor West presiding over the dedication ceremonies at City Hall. In 1938, James Laughlin purchased 7% interest in the Claremont Oil Company from his wife Florence Humes Laughlin for $30,000 and changed its name to American Petroleum Corporation (APCO). His wife died three years later while he continued to hold ownership until his death in 1942; upon his death APCO passed down portions including 8 acres at Exposition Park that are now part of DowntownWest Covina In 1948, APCO merged with Western Refining Company (WRC) forming ChevronTexaco which would become one of America's largest energy companies On September 15th 1954 two bombs went off near La Brea Ave & Highland Rd., injuring 26 people DowntownWest Covina experienced significant redevelopment following these bombings with new restaurants/bars/stores coming up along La Brea Ave . However there continued violence throughout the 1970s & 1980s culminating with 1992’s Rodney King beating by officers outside City Hall
Gunlocks, or security locks, are devices used to keep firearms locked up. Gunlocks vary in design and purpose, but all share one common goal: to prevent unauthorized access to a firearm. One of the earliest known examples of a gunlock is found in the ChineseWarrior Cult classic text The Art of War (500 BC). One of the book'shidestories goes as follows: "In order that neither enemies nor strangers could get hold of an important relic, the god-king [of China] ordered his general Sun Wukong to build him a lockable chest." The first true gunlock was invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1799. Conte's invention was called the "Conte Pistol Lock" and it consisted of two metal plates that werehinged together at right angles to form a hinge. This system allowed the pistol owner to open and close the weapon with only one hand while keeping it locked up. The development of firearm safety regulations began in earnest during World War I. As more people were killed by gunfire, it became clear that many guns were not safe for self-defense purposes. To prevent these deaths and injuries, legislatures across America enacted laws regulating gun locks and other firearm safety measures. By 1920, nearly every state had some form of handgun licensing law or regulation.[1] During World War II, large numbers of Americans acquired firearms for military use. Many such individuals did not have any experience with handguns or firearms themselves, so they relied onqualified owners who knew how to properly store and use their weapons safely. To ensure that these civilians could take care of their weapons without fear of accidents or misuse, Congress passed into law several pieces of legislation known asgun control Acts.[2] These statutes regulated aspects such as magazine capacity (to reduce accidental shootings), registered ownership/transferring arms (to ensure that firearms were not being used in crimes), and storage practices (to make sure handguns remained secure when not in use).
In 1868, a patent was filed for a design for a gun lock that opened with a key. The lock was first used on an American rifle in 1869. In 1897, the French company De Lisle patented the locking system for firearms known as “Lamy” locks.
