Since then, Brighton has seen many changes: In 2000 it became the home of CU Denver’s new downtown campus; in 2011 it welcomed its first permanent residents after years of planning and construction; in 2015 it hosted the Miss Universe pageant; while last year marked its centennial! In 2018, Mayor Donny Martinez announced plans to make Brighton into a city within a city – similar to how Boulder became an urban center without giving up its rural character. Whitney as a ranch and log settlement on the banks of the Rio Grande about three miles south of present-day Brighton Village and two miles east of what is now Aspen Springs. Palmer named it after his own birthplace, Brighton, England; Whitney renamed it to commemorate his wife's fatherhood by her grandfather, James Kieft (1784-1870). The first post office in Brighton opened on November 1, 1888; its name was changed to Aspen Springs on December 12th of that year due to complaints from residents regarding having no postal service nearer than Aspen Springs itself! In 1896, Arapaho County became Summit County and Aspen Springs became part of Brighton proper; however, mail continued to be sent through Arapaho County until 1912 when all mail within Summit County moved to DenverPostCorp.'s new main campus at 14th & Downing Streets in downtown Denver. The first store in Brighton opened in 1903; this store was operated by Fenton Bros., a local hardware company which later merged with Sears Roebuck & Co.; the original building still stands today as an architectural landmark known locally as "The Boot Store". In 1916 the fledgling town built its first high school (Old High School), which served students until 1924 when they boarded out into separate schools district No. 2 for girls located adjacent to Main Street across from The Boot Store - home then also of Magnolia Bakery dating back to 1915! The current high school building was completed in 1951 and replaced an earlier one which had been destroyed by fire in 1945! In 1949 Gossage Electric Cooperative began serving customers supplying power for lights/electronics throughout town including earlyBellevue Hospital overground lines! Between 1960-1974 several small businesses were established including Roland's Service Station (now closed) Drake's Groceryeteria (closed down circa 1990), Two Guys At Golf (closed down circa2005), Dog 'n' Tail Doggy Daycare (closed down circa2010), Grains 'n' Veggies Markets Inc.(closed down circa2015) among others

The first settlement in Brighton was made by prospectors in 1868. The town was named for theBrighton Bayou, which flows through it. It became a municipality in 1907 and a city in 1912.
