When the Centennial Express Train pulled into the Centennial station on July 4, 1876, the first thing passengers saw was a trainload of firearms. The Centennial Rifle and Pistol Club had organized a public exhibition of their latest rifles and pistols. The first gun mag published in Colorado Springs was The Arcade Monthly, founded by local shotgun captain George Fenton in 1875. In 1879, The Rocky Mountains Gun Week began concurrent with the Columbine shootings in Colorado Springs. In 1903, Westside Gun Mag published its first issue. That year also saw the opening of Colorado's only rifle range: Red Butte Shooting Range at Pikes Peak Park. After World War I ended and Prohibition began to be enforced across America,gun magazines started to focus more on sales than publication as circulation dwindled. But by 1933 magazine circulation had increased so much that both The Rifleman and Shotgun News were merged into one magazine called "The Rifleman-Shootout". In 1935, "The Rifleman" changed its name back to "The Shooter" after merging with another magazine called "Gunsmoke". A new feature of "Gunsmoke" was an annual shootout between the country’s top shooters from around the world known as “The International Shootout” which took place at Aspen Meadows Resort in Aspen, Colorado every summer for over 30 years beginning in 1951. By 1959 “Gunsmoke” had outgrown its original premises on Q Street in downtown Denver and moved to 506 12th Avenue South where it continues today as part of Hearst Communications Newspapers chain publications division."

In the early 1800s, Centennial was a small town in western Colorado. It was known for its gunsmiths and firearms. The area now known as Centennial became an important center for gun trade in the late 1800s and early 1900s because of its strategic location between Denver and Colorado Springs. Centennial's prominence began to grow after it was chosen as the site of the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. The exposition attracted a large number of people from all over the world, who brought with them their own guns and cartridge cases. This resulted in increased demand forgunsmithing services, which led to more businesses being opened up around Centennial. In 1896, Centennial passed an ordinance that prohibited women from owning handguns or carrying any weapons whatsoever within city limits. This ordinance remained in effect until 1933, when it was repealed by new municipal regulations.

On July 1st 1933, Carbon County merged with Park City to become Denver County; Centennial remained withinDenverCounty until January 1st 1999 when it was annexation into Arvada by Aurora Municipal Districts

The first post office at Centennial was established on November 3, 1865, and was renamed Asotin after General John A. Asotin commandant of Fort Lyon Indian Agency (now Cheyenne Mountain). The second post office at Centennial was established on December 5, 1875; it was renamed Pueblo after Pueblo City in San Miguel County, New Mexico. In 1915 Centennial became home to what is now known as the United States Military Academy at West Point—the first military academy west of Interstate 80. The centenary celebration began with a parade through Centennial Village on Saturday night followed by a general assembly meeting held at Continental Hall thatSunday morning. A number of events were also held throughout the week including an agricultural fairground exhibition Saturday evening; a market dayMonday morning; anda football game between Westminster High School and Pueblo East High School Wednesday afternoon. On Friday night local businesses opened their doors for dinner service following which several lectures took place including one by Drs J F McGee and H G Woolridge discussing “The Growth Of Western Colorado” from earliest times until 1912 when it became part of Utah Territory under President Brigham Young Jr.. On Sunday evening 1,500 people attended an open-air concert staged by the Pikes Peak Viewpoint Band playing music from various eras from around the world along with local patriotic songs such as “Halt! Or How I Got Over You” performed by Gold Rush band members Harry Smith (guitar) & Charlie McCoy (bass) with Don Ryder (drums). Afterward refreshments were served inside Continental Hall before another ballgame between Westminster High School and Pueblo East High School took place Wednesday afternoon under tent seating using fieldTurf which had been brought over from nearby White Sands National Monument during halftime of that same game played on September 14th 1985
Centennial, Colorado was founded on July 24, 1876, by two brothers named George and John Denver. The area that would become Centennial was first inhabited by the Ute tribe of Native Americans. On July 24, 1876, George Denver and his brother John organized a group of men to purchase 640 acres of land in what is now Centennial. They named their new settlement “Denver” after the then-unified United States of America. The town began to grow rapidly as people came to live and work in the area. By 1888, Centennial had a population of 2,500 people. In 1912, Centennial became an incorporated town with a government similar to that of today’s Colorado Springs. Centennial has experienced many ups and downs during its history. In 1908, a severe drought struck the area and caused some crop failures; however, this turned out to be only the beginning of problems for Centennial. Centennial struggled during World War II because it lacked resources necessary for war production such as steel or munitions; however, this actually helped contribute to its growth later on in the century. In 1945, when part of Boulder County became independent fromColorado Springs County due to changes in state law regarding annexation attempts by adjacent counties (eased by then-Governor Earl Warren), Centenary lost most if not all its businesses and residents because Boulder County had more resources than it did within Centenary itself
