In 1903, The Denver Post reported that “the Centennial Rifle and Pistol Club has been holding a number of matches with rifles and pistols since last summer inclusive. These matches have been very successful in filling up our rifle range which was much too small for our presentmeetings” In 1912, The Columbine School Shooting took place in Colorado Springs. This event is considered to be one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S history.

The first centennial of Colorado was celebrated on October 15, 1876. The state's admission as a U.S. state occurred on November 4, 1864. Regrettably, the date falls within the span of two years during which many significant events took place in the early days of Colorado. These include the arrival of John C. Fremont and his party from California in November of 1863 and the Battle of Montrose fought between American forces and Mexican troops on April 14, 1865.
