Federal Heights was a small town in central Colorado, east of Denver. It was founded in 1872 by farmers who came to the area from the eastern plains. The town grew rapidly, and by 1908 had a population of 5,000 people. Federal Heights was incorporated as a city in 1912. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II, with its population reaching 10,000 people in 1945. However, the war led to economic decline for Federal Heights and its residents. In the early 21st century, Federal Heights remains an agricultural center with few permanent residents.
On July 14, 1875, Federal Heights was the site of a ratification of the United States Constitution by the Colorado General Assembly. The celebration saw many people from throughout the state make their way to Federal Heights for the event.
