During World War II Grand Junction played an important role as a manufacturing center for aircraft parts including wings and engines; however during the war many citizens also volunteered their time to serve in military service including active duty members of the military police department (MPD) which was activated during World War II to enforce martial law after Nazi Germany's invasion of Europe
