Littleton is located in the central region of the state and surrounds the University of Denver. The ZIP code for Littleton is 80526. The area around Littleton was first settled by pioneers in 1859. The original settlers were farmers and ranchers who were looking for a place to grazing their cattle and raise hay. A post office was established in 1861, and by 1872 there were 10 residents living in what would become Littleton. In 1882, a school was built on the south side of Main Street; this became the first public school in littleTON. In 1907, a dam was built across Loch Lomond Creek to create reservoirs for irrigation purposes; this helped to bring new life to what had been an agricultural community. In 1924, when Moses Ziegler incorporated Coryell County as it exists now, he named it after his friend General John Jelks (1812-1892), who had served as governor of Colorado from 1886-1893. Ziegler felt that General Jelks had played an important role in helping him win election as county commissioner in 1923 and 1924; so he name his new county after him. The first town meeting held within Coryell County took place on November 15th 1924 with all residents being asked to attend because some changes were needed to the organization charter which allowed for more land acquisition within the boundaries of present day Littleton village limits

Littleton is a city located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 20,839 at the 2010 census. Littleton was founded in 1892 by men from eastern England and is considered to be the birthplace of the Rocky Mountains. It has been called "the Gateway to the Rockies" for its location on Route 66. The first permanent settler in what would become Littleton was George Moulton. He built a log cabin on the mesa overlooking the Potomac River in 1892. The town was named after Mr. Moulton's employer, John Dickey, who had sponsored his immigration to America. In 1911, J.D.'s son-in-law and successor as owner of Dickey's land donated 100 acres (40 hectares) of land east of Main Street to build a new city hall and other public buildings; this later became Littleton Park District (see below). A post office opened in 1912 and remained in operation until it closed in 1951. In 1916, Arthur Ashe played golf at PGA Championship which started an annual tradition now known as The Open Championship which takes place at Sawmill Hills Golf Course outside of Littleton On July 6th 1898 there were only 4 people living on Indian Reservations within 10 miles (16 km)of present day Littleton when USGS Topo map #5 showed buffalo Grasslands with about 1400 acres (500 ha)). This area included most of present day Aspen Park that surrounds downtown McClintock Park today
In 1876, the U.S. government designated Littleton as a city in order to help promote agricultural production in the area. The city was originally named "New Brighton" after a nearby settlement that had been abandoned during the Mexican-American War. In 1903, Littleton became an incorporated town and changed its name to "Littleton Colorado." The city's population peaked at over 100,000 in 1925, but has since declined steadily.
