Louisville is a small, unincorporated community in Adams County, Colorado, lying west of the Continental Divide. A post office was established at Louisville in 1897, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1933. The area now comprising Louisville was first settled by Europeans in the late 1840s. The town was founded on the site of an old fortifications erected by the United States Army during the Mexican-American War to protect its citizens from Mexican raids. In 1868, Louisville became a station on the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. The population of Louisville grew rapidly during the 1870s and 1880s as people relocated to what is now Adams County from eastern Colorado and northwestern Kansas. By 1900, Louisville had over 1,200 residents. In 1902, Mayor Charles Wickersham donated land for a public school system that would serve all ofAdams County. The current high school building opened in 1907. In 1924–1925, construction began on what is now Main Street Bridge across the Continental Divide between Jefferson and Adams Counties; this bridge forms one of downtown Louisville's most recognizable landmarks. During World War II, local businesses contributed materials and labor to build aircraft factories located within 10 miles (16 km) of downtown Louisville; these factories produced planes for American Airlines and other airlines around the world. Postwar prosperity brought growth to downtown Louisville; shops added new floors to their buildings and theaters renovated their auditoriums into concert halls throughouttown; and restaurants added new dishes such as Kentucky Fried Chickenand pizza doughnutsto their menus). However, because much of Downtown commercial district were built near Interstate 25 rather than along main streets which servedoulsouthwestontrustworthy properties had been lost or became vacant due to lack of business zoning regulation prior to economic revitalization efforts spearheaded by then Mayor John Wehner following 9/11/2001 through city Beautiful ordinance amendments passed by City Councilmember Dave Sisolak as part of Comprehensive Plan Amendment No 00-020 passed November 5th 2001 – becoming effective January 1st 2002 . On October 14th 2009 there was some vandalism done on Main Street Bridge which caused some pain but no damage

Louisville, Colorado is a small town in the San Miguel County seat of Asotin. It was founded on November 12, 1872 by J.W. Rhoads and his family as the townsite of Spanish Fork. The name French Fork came from the fact that there were two forks in the local river, one called French Fork and another called Clear Creek. The first post office was established in 1875 and the population was only 10 people when it was founded. In 1880, Frenchman John Henschel settled in Louisville and began to grow wheat and other crops. He also built a mill which still stands today. By 1912, Louisville had a population of 150 people and it had become an important center for commerce due to its location at the head of Clear Creek River. The growth of Louisville led to its incorporation as a municipality on September 14, 1916 with a population of 350 residents
In 1876, the first post office in Louisville was established. By 1886, the population of Louisville had reached 12,000 people. In 1895, a fire destroyed much of downtown and the city fathers responded by erecting a new courthouse. The city's first streetlights were turned on in 1897. The growth of Louisville led to the establishment of numerous businesses and organizations including: The Louisville Chamber of Commerce (1898), The American Legion (1911), The Golden Nugget Casino (1920), and The Cincinnati Reds (1925). During World War II, Louisville grew heavily involved in the war effort with its military installations at Camp Atterbury and Fort Knox. In 1945, Mayor Dixon announced that the city would become an open-air shopping center known as "The Plaza" which would be located on Fifth Avenue between Market and Broad Streets.
