Montrose is a small, rural community in Larimer County, Colorado. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. Montrose is located on the eastern side of the Pikes Peak range and is bordered by Aspen to the north and east, Canon City to the south and west, and Loveland to the northwest. The first Europeans to visit Montrose were Spanish traders in 1540. The area that now includes Montrose was first settled by Mexicans in 1847 as part of a process of extending rancho grants across Mexico into what are now Colorado and Wyoming. In 1859, American soldiers burned down the Mexican town of Cuevas de la Frontera near present-day Loveland after Mexican forces attacked them while they were traveling through the area. In 1865, gold was found at Gold Hill in Montrose Township; this led to an influx of people and businesses into the area, which began to grow rapidly. By 1870, Montrose had become one of Colorado's most populous communities with over 2,000 residents. In 1875,montroses first public school opened; it was later replaced by a high school which operated from 1896 until 1978 when it became coeducational. During World War II (1939-1945), many homes were built for military personnel stationed in nearby Canon City during World War II; these homes still stand today as evidence of their time spent here. Montrose has seen its share of economic challenges throughout its history but has persevered through them all; some examples include: automobile production being shifted from Dodge City towards Denver during WWII due to shortages caused by war demand; an effort made during 1970s by then-Mayor John Romer Sr.; development along both sides of Interstate 25W known collectively as "The Ring Road" which totaled over 100 residences/businesses becoming dominant over much smaller residential areas east or west of I-25W including many schools (this particular development ultimately led to legal action taken against him by several other municipalities who felt that they had been forced out); extensive redevelopment taking place between 2000s thru 2010s including major construction projects such as Interstate 25W widening project approved back in 2006 & 2007 resulting in increased traffic congestion on I-25W & adjacent streets & even directly impacting local schools; increase numbers & density overnight housing units developing near Interstates 24& 70W since early 2000s specificially within unincorporated areas within Boulder County known collectively as "The Strip".

Montrose is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Westminster–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1876 by James Montrose and his family. The first post office was established in Montrose on July 16, 1876. In 1907, Montrose had a population of 283 people and a schoolhouse that served as the only public school in the town until 1931. In 1912, Montrose became the site of one of the most important battles between Ulysses S Grant's army and General John J. Pershing's forces during World War I. On October 12th that year, American troops under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer attacked German forces entrenched at Rose Creek southeast of Montrose; however despite heavy losses for both sides (Custer died from his wounds), Ulysses S Grant later awarded credit to Pershing for "the great victory" which helped end World War I on December 11th 1918. Montrose also has been home to several famous athletes over the years including professional wrestler Hulk Hogan who grew up in nearby Thornton and played football for local high school team Morrison High School before beginning his professional wrestling career in 1984; Olympian figure skater Nancy Kerrigan who attended local schools before becoming one of America's top female athletes; and cowboy singer/songwriter Patsy Cline who was raised in nearby Fruita before moving to Silver Lake, California to become an international star

Montrose, Colorado is home to a number of historical sites, including the Montrose Railway Depot and the Montrose Hotel. The town was once considered a center for coalmining, but now it is known for its wine production.
