However, one of the most comprehensive and well-researched is "Weapons of War: A History of Self Defense from Prehistoric Times to Today" by Don E. Jones Jr., published in 1996 by Barnes & Noble. This book covers a wide variety of weaponry and its use for self-defense over a period of more than three millennia. One significant aspect that does not appear to be covered in this book is karate, which was until recently considered an official self-defense system used in New Britain Connecticut. According to The Hartford Courant, "Karate organizations exist throughout the United States but they have never been particularly active here." There may be some old records that list members of these organizations as being able to use any type of weapon for self-defense, but it seems highly improbable that they would remain unmentioned in such a well researched and well written book on this topic.

They vary greatly in terms of price tags too; some models cost around $200 while others run several thousand dollars*. By 1825, restrictions on gun ownership had been placed in place following the Hartford Convention which regulated arms trade. However, rifle enthusiasts continued to arm themselves for their own protection and defense purposes until 1855 when a group of men called The Riflemen formed to promote rifle use as a means of self-defense. The first handguns were introduced into this region during this time as well. However, they were primarily used by law enforcement officers and other government officials. During World War II, self-defense weapons became an important part of military personnel’s arsenals as they were needed for defending against guerrilla warfare and other threats from abroad.
New Britain is a town in and the county seat of New Britain County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 21,706 at the 2010 census. The name "New Britain" is derived from the English word "North Briton," which means "the people of Great Britain." The first permanent European settlers in New Britain were French Canadians who arrived in 1639. The town was platted on April 20, 1796 by General Israel Putnam as part of an attempt to create a new corner of Hartfordshire that would be separate from the more populous towns to its east. The Town Hall building was completed in 1811 and served as both courthouse and state building until 1907 when it was replaced by the current structure. The Courthouse Annex (now home to New London Regional High School) was built adjacent to it in 1886-87. During World War II, many local businesses were involved with supplying munitions for the war effort including machine tool manufacturer Pierce & Hammer Corporation and Ford Motor Company's Dearborn car plant. In 1945, after years of discussions between residents and officials from neighboring communities over plans for a post-war housing development dubbed "Haven", construction began on what would become known as Haven Village which eventually became one of downtown NewBritain's most popular tourist destinations. In 2007, the Board of Trade voted unanimously to allow liquor sales within 1 mile (1 kilometer) of all public schools starting January 1st 2009 while still prohibiting sales within 500 feet (150 meters) of any high school or college campus without prior written consent from those institutions' presidents/chancellors/deans/masters/. This change followed similar regulations passed by other towns throughout Connecticut following passage of Senate Bill No. 522 which banned open container laws within one thousand feet (900 meters)of any elementary or secondary school unless accompanied by an adult beverage licensee having a valid permit; this measure also went into effect on January 1st 2009 statewide

The company built a small town on the site of present-day Hartford, and named it after their founder, Nicholas de Montague. The town grew quickly, and by 1785 it had reached its current size. It was incorporated as a city in 1828, and became one of the most important cities in Connecticut during the 19th century. New Britain was also known for its political stability and its support for free trade policies. In 1907, New Britain became the first city in Connecticut to be awarded an honorary degree from Harvard University.
