In 1819, a man by the name of Will Rogers bought a rifle from Captain John Stroud and started shooting skeet at Fort Myers Island. This was the beginning of firearm usage in Winter Garden. Other people soon followed suit and began to purchase firearms as well. Over time, different types of firearms were introduced into the state. Some of these handguns included revolvers, rifles, shotguns, and machine guns. Throughout this time period there were many shootings and accidents with firearms that took place in Winter Garden. One such incident happened on November 3rd of 1892 when two men named Richard Goodwin and Charles Hargrave shot at each other while they were playing checkers at an ante-room party at the home of Mrs. Larkin in derriere “The Golden Fleece” hotel on Third Street near Polk Boulevard]. This led to one death and three injuries as both men fired their weapons indiscriminately into the air before being subdued by friends who arrived on scene[]. In 1907 there was another shooting which took place inside The Golden Fleece Hotel[ ]. A group of men including James Ewing (a member of) held up four cards telling gamblers what races they wanted to see played out before taking money from those who didn’t want to gamble] After betting accordingly they pulled out their pistols but only James Ewing drew his weapon after getting threatened with violence if he didn’t give over his money][ ]. Afterward all but James Ewing ran away without giving any particulars about what had transpired] Another occurrence that took place within months came when twelve African American miners working for The Miami Coal Company went into town for Sunday dinner [ ]. While eating their dinner outside on Fountain Place around 6 PM one night a fight ensued between five white men known as Radcliffe & Brougham strikebreakers (the company hired black workers) vs.] 11 black men; eight gunmen resulted from this altercation with .45 caliber Colt revolvers drawn]; nine Miners died from gunshot wounds while six escape unharmed» ] It should be noted that during this particular altercation several unarmed African Americans had also been injured including future Sunshine State Senator Alabaster Townsend whose arm was shattered by a rock thrown through a window[]. Aftermath of these shootings led Congressman George Prentice to call for stricter gun laws specifically designed towards race[ ]. He believed that these incidents could not be tolerated anymore because it was creating more tension within society> ] By 1912 most lawsuits involving firearms had stopped due to lack evidence or dispute between gun owners& provided witnesses>. However some cases still continued such as when Drs./Mrs J M McCarthy & family brought an illegal shotgun into their home against orders from police officers after firing shots over hedgehog cages during petting zoo visits>] In 1915 Wm Goudreau opened Goudreau's Hardware store located at Seventh Avenue South opposite MLK Park] At this point firearm usage had decreased significantly» ], During World War I new restrictions were put into effect banning certain types of ammunition» ]) After Victory Field Day banquet where President Wilson delivered his speechifying about neutrality proclamation…] Thereafter sporadic gunfire occurred until 1922 when regulations changed again allowing open carry [/ formidable: investigative report prepared for senate subcommittee on public safety Investigating organized crime activity source: archives/congressional records investigation service november 19th 1918 file number 5486-2 /virginia

Winter Garden is a city located in Polk County, Florida,United States. The population was 9,856 at the 2010 census. It constitutes part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area and is the largest city within that area by land area. Winter Garden is also home to NASA's Kennedy Space Center and its sister center, Johnson Space Center. The first settlers in Winter Garden were farmers who came from southwestern Georgia in 1837. They started a small farm on what is now Spring Creek Road near downtown. In 1841, they moved to a farm on FM 521 south of town and built a log cabin which still stands today as the towns first post office building. In 1845, Captain John Auld moved his family from Gainesville to Winter Garden when he purchased part of what is now known as Cox's Creek Township from David Cox Sr.. Captain Auld named his entire township after himself and established a Village Hall there which still stands today.Captain Auld remains an honored history figure in Winter Garden with numerous buildings being named after him including: First Baptist Church (1936), Captain John Auld Museum (1982),Captain John Auld Field House (1993) and Captain John Aauld Elementary School (2006). In 1903, George Fenton bought property adjacent to where Spring Creek Road & University Avenue now stand for $1 per acre from JWCfounder Drury Leland Beal III. He began developing it into what we know today as Winter Garden; starting with about 10 acres of land around present day First Baptist Church and moving out into more than 100 acres by 1916 when he acquired additional property between US-4 & Orange Blossom Trail east of UF-Orlando Blvd.. Mrs Gertrude Pease donated her extensive orchard east of US 4/Orlando Blvd., north of Central Ave., west of State Rd #2 & south of Sawgrass Rd., making it one block away from the new City Hall Annex where City Council meetings are currently held! By 1949, Mr Fenton had developed over 1 million sq ft on almost 2 dozen properties totaling over 11 acres east of US 4/Orange Blossom Trail – making him one of America’s wealthiest men at that time! In 1957, following annexation by Orlando proper which occurred just two years earlier due to an amendment to the state Constitution allowing cities such as Orlando to be annexed if their populations exceeded 50% “white” residents only – Mayor Harry Bendixen announced plans for a new city hall complex site just off Hillsborough Rd next door to Orange Blossom Trail on what would become State Road #2 about five miles northwest of downtown Winter Gardens then becoming Ormond Beach Boulevard long before that! This wasn’t your average municipal development project however; because although many citizens wanted annexation given their proximity to major corporate headquarters throughout Downtown Orlando – Stated Director Harry Bendixen felt that too much competition would ensue leading him instead create our very own municipally controlled police department separate from all other law enforcement operations inside or outside OFDOT!! Today we know this old plan as Project Snowball which ultimately led to WGHA being founded… not least because those original designs included demolishing most everything inside OFDOT’s current Tower District including our beloved First Baptist Church!!! For all intents and purposes though; WGHA actually became operational days AFTER ORLANDO officially became an incorporated municipality!!! In 1966 WWVA began airing live broadcasts FROM KENNEDY SPACE CENTER during Race Week utilizing Ku Klux Klan support while other stations continued reporting news updates telecast live elsewhere concurrent with Race coverage statewide!!! The broadcasts were temporarily relocated TO WINTER GARDEN beginning approximately week 3 following Freedom From Mauve broadcast thru Sunday night Feb 14th thru Tuesday morning Feb 16th following Days Of Our Lives tapings network wide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After monthsOf planning team effort both KHOU&WWVA worked together seamlessly creating one seamless program experience never before experienced anywhere else!!!!!!! With TVA providing highly acclaimed graphics capabilities facility manager Don Metz assigned special effects supervisor Don Hutton who designed AND constructed all digital sets used on THAT DAY !! You could actually SEE THE KLAUSKIES Horsemen riding atop HUGE WHITE TENTHERS directly across Lake Washington visible thru upper decks window during race coverage!!!!!!!!!!!!! UPN produced similar shows using similar technology some years later during Hurricane Andrew season…. prior To THAT day you could ONLY see reruns through Channel 8 Action News…..and so it goes………..to this day KHOU has NEVER aired any races LIVE EVER AGAIN!!!…………………..?????

There are two main branches of the Miami metropolitan area: Miami Beach to the south and Overtown to the north. As one moves east or west from Winter Garden, they come into contact with Palm Bay and St Augustine which form what may be best described as a Tri-Cities Area that stretches from Greater Fort Myers eastward all the way to West Palm Beach and Boynton Beach on its southern border.

Winter Garden, Florida was founded in 1837 by Captain John C. Butler and his wife, Teresa. The area that is now Winter Garden was originally called the Islets of Palmyra because the British used to call it that. It was named after Winter Garden in England because there wasn't any real winter until after captain Butler moved from England to this area in 1837. In 1840,Captain Butler and his family started a small farm on what is now Springhill Road and later added a plantation which extended into what is now Winter Garden. Captain Butler died in 1865 but his wife continued to run the plantation until her death in 1918. After Captain Butler's death, the property passed through several families before it came into ownership of Mrs. Anna Jarvis who operated it until her death in 1951. Mrs. Jarvis' children kept it running as a summer home while they ran their other businesses including Summerland Guest House which still stands today on Springhill Road next to where Captain Butler's original farm once did
