A group of Englishmen led by Lieutenant John Byron set out on HMS Beagle sailing from England on December 12th Tahitian island group Pitcairn Island saw them sail past but no interaction was reported back so no explorer followed them Thereafter few reports were received about any new land sightings until February 14th 1830 when British Admiral Nelson sighted Kaapangamoku(Kāpēmoku) Atoll about midway between Samoa And Tonga he named it after his friend Lord Howe as part of his circumnavigation around Earth expedition However no further action was taken other than giving him credit The Admiralty decided not to explore further because they knew only Australia could offer potential rich resources They also did not want another European power getting control over Asia This knowledge led captain Cook's return voyage on July 29th 1779 which found none new land despite hoping for it since he had searched for three years previous He flew ashore on November 7th at Elua(Elua) Atoll after reaching Sandwich Isl
