The Twin Falls Arsenal was founded in 1892 by Captain John W. Burt, who was then the commanding officer of the United States Army's Post at Fort Boise. The arsenal produced ammunition for the military and artillery on a small scale until 1912 when it became the bureau of munitions for local government. In 1914, it became part of the National Defense Reserve System and in 1947, it merged with the Idaho Arsenal to become Central Ammunition Depot Twin Falls (CADTwinFalls). The depot produced ammunition for both tanks and cannons from 1941-1945 during World War II. It closed down in 1945 but reopened as CADTwinFalls again in 1951. Today, CADTwinFalls produces ammunition for both tanks and cannons as well as projectiles such as shot cartridges, rounds, grenades, rockets and pistols.
Twin Falls, Idaho is a city in central Idaho and the county seat of Twin Falls County. The population was 9,021 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Snake River about 30 miles (48 km) north of Boise. The first Europeans to visit Twin Falls were Mormon missionaries led by John C. Fremont in 1869-70. At that time, the river was known as "the Great Snake." The Mormons built their first log cabin here in 1871. A post office was established in 1870, and two years later a store and hotel were opened. In 1875, twin falls creek formed when water diverted from the Snake River overflowed its banks near present-day downtown Twin Falls. In 1902, local entrepreneurs developed what would become one of Idaho's largest cotton plantations; it became known as Iron Mountain Cotton Company after being purchased by J P Morgan & Co.. The company operated until 1925 when it merged with another major cotton producer to form United States Cotton Company which continued to operate until 1990. In 1912, much of what is now downtown Twin Falls was destroyed by a fire that burned for days while residents slept; this tragedy helped spur development around what are now several blocks east of Main Street including today's downtown area and several hospitals/. In 1932 an extensive renovation project began on the old main library building which coincided with the emergence of Twin Falls as an important center for culture and commerce within central Idaho Territory during the early 1930s prior to statehood.. Downtown Twin Falls experienced significant growth following World War II when military families moved into town seeking easy access to nearby services such as schooling and housing developments that had been available only outside of town limits or farther away in rural areas adjacent to towns like Lewiston or Pocatello... In recent decades there has been continuing redevelopment taking place throughout downtown which has included new restaurants/bars/stores etc., along with many apartment buildings - all designed for adaptive reuse over time... As part of its vision for revitalization Twin FallsCity worked closely with Price Waterhouse LLP who created a Master Plan for Downtown Development including elements such as an Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Streetscape Program, Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB), Special Events Assistance Committee (SEAC), Event Management Plan Oversight Committee (EMPOC), Parking Garage Coordination Subcommittee (PGC) and Transportation Element.... The ammunition that is used today can be traced back to the 18th century when cannons began firing balls made from various materials such as wood or cloth. Ball ammo was first developed in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. By the early 19th century cannonballs had become larger and more realistic with metal balls that could travel far and find their mark. In 1836 British artilleryman developed a round using lead which became known as the “Tripod Round” because it could be lowered onto a post so that it could fire accurately at long range without hitting the ground. This round was able to penetrate Spanish armor at over 100 yards (91 meters). The use of projectile rounds led to increased accuracy in shooting at distances beyond 30 yards (27 meters). Bullet accuracy improved as technology progressed until World War I when guns started firing projectiles that were made entirely of metal with no wooden parts whatsoever. One common type of ammunition used during World War I was high explosive shells called “sixty seconds grenades” which had an explosive charge inside them that would detonate after a short amount of time when they came into contact with something sturdy likerapnel or infantrymen
The first rounds of small arms ammunition were created in the 1860s. The first large-capacity rifle cartridges were developed in the 1870s. These early cartridges featured a larger-sized projectile and used a different propellant, which led to greater damage potential and range.
The Twin Falls, Idaho community was settled in the 1860s by fur traders and their families. The town was named for two falls on the Snake River. The first fall, called Beaver Fall, was located about four miles east of present-day Twin Falls. The second fall, called Clearwater Fall, was located further upstream. In 1871, the United States government acquired title to what is now Twin Falls from the company that had sold it to the US government. At this time, Twin Falls consisted of a few small villages and a scattering of homesteads near the falls. In 1880, twin brothers George and John Hargrave founded Whatcom City in what is now southcentral Boise County. They were soon joined by other entrepreneurs who established businesses in mining, logging and agriculture in what is now eastern Idaho and western Wyoming. By 1906, twin towns had been organized around Whatcom City: Salmon Arm to the north; Lewiston to the west; Glendive to the south; and White Sulphur Springs to the east. The 19th century saw many advances in transportation technology that helped make Twin Falls an important center for trade with surrounding states and Canada. In 1870, a wagon road was built between Lewiston and White Sulphur Springs by men led by Major James Waddell along what is now Interstate 85 (now US 95). This road became known as Stagecoach Road because stage coaches stopped at various stops along its route. On July 5, 1876, President Ulysses S Grant made history when he delivered his final message from Mount Rushmore National Monument on Stagecoach Road near present-day Twin Falls. During World War II (1941-1945), Twin Falls served as an airfield serving American forces based out of nearby Topeka before being closed down due to wartime restrictions on military activity in noncombatant areas (see also “Postwar Development” below). However little damage or human casualties resulted from these activities because local residents developed alternative means of access into town without using Air Force facilities (e.g., hiking or biking). Today much ofTwin Falls’ historical significance has been preserved through nonprofit organizations such asthe Army Historical Research Service (AHS) which conducts research on behalf of military departments across America;the Klondike Gold Rush Museum which displays artifacts relatedto gold mining operations during that period;andthe University of Idaho Department of History which administers interpretive programs at several locations throughout town including Beaver Fall Park where visitors can explore evidence left behind during glacier retreat over 12 million years ago
The first settlers in Twin Falls were two brothers, John and David Stephenson. They started a post office in 1875, and the town was named after them. The Stephenson brothers also founded the city of Twin Falls on the confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers.
