Twin Falls, Idaho is a town located in Clark County, Idaho. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise metropolitan area. A post office called Twin Falls was established in 1876, and remained in operation until it closed in 1963. The first settler in what is now Twin Falls was Nels Hamerman. He and his family moved to the area from Oregon in 1885. In 1911, David Senter purchased land east of the falls and built a log cabin which became the nucleus of what would become Twin Falls. In 1916, Senter and his wife Lilla founded the First Baptist Church in Twin Falls. The first school opened in Twin Falls on December 1, 1916 by Mrs. Ethel Crouse with six students from Pocatello School District #1. This school served grades pre-K through 8th grade for two years before being replaced by Valley View Middle School which opened on October 1, 1919 as one of three schools serving all students within Valley View Township (later Meridian). Valley View Elementary School operated from September 1923 to May 1969 when it merged with Eastview Elementary School to form Meridian Middle Schools... The only other school that existed north of Meridian Street during this time period were Stroudsburg Academy (now known as Keystone Christian Academy) and Indian Head High School which were both open for grades 9-12 only during lunchtime; these schools were closed concurrent with Meridian's opening due to lack of space or funding. In 1960, after voters approved a $5 per acre tax increase for local government purposes,[3] twin falls incorporated as a borough[4] under the name “Twin Falls Borough” with voting privileges limited to residents who resided within its boundaries.[5][6] On July 15, 1961,[7] “Twin Falls Borough” changed its name back to “Clark County” effective July 16 following an initiative by then-County Commissioner Harry Kappler[8][9]. The change took effect at midnight local time (UTC−7).[10] On November 24, 1990,[11][12][13][14][15] Uganda Airlines Flight 002 crashed into Mount Rainier National Park killing all but 39 passengers and crew including 5 Americans citizens: pilot Don Armstrong (#25), co-pilot Michael Collins (#26), flying engineer Jeffrey MacDonald (#27), flight attendant Cynthia Weinstock (#28) and passenger Christi Wright (#29).
