Centralia, Illinois is a small city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 943 at the 2010 census. Centralia is located on the east bank of the Kankakee River. It is bordered by Aurora to the north and east, Peoria to the south and west, Galesburg to the northwest and Lombard to the northeast. The city was founded in 1853 as a town called "Centralia". It was named for John C. Central Railroad Station, which stood near today's corner of Park Avenue and Main Street. In 1871, Centralia became an independent township and received its own courthouse and jail. In 1888 it became a village under a new name - "Centralia Heights". The post office served Centralia from 1888 until 1959. In 1902, when Kane County was organized into eleven townships (Centralia Township being one), Centralia became part of Aurora Township; however, Aurora abolished its township form in 1907. On November 3 that year, Aurora also abolished its separate school district - all schools were integrated into Kane County's newly formed education department by 1913. By 1931 Centralia had become an entirely dependent municipality within Kane County government; however, residents continued to vote their municipal officials directly through regular elections until 1945 when they were re-established as representatives via charter amendment (see below). On December 1st 1915 peripheral Vandalism Protection District No 2 filed suit against City of Centralia for damage done to property belonging to said corporation without just cause or justification...the suit listed $569 worth of property damage done by City employees between October 15th 1914 and December 8th 1915 inclusive...the defendants pleaded not guilty…The case went before Circuit Court Judge Fenton who found that there could be no defense because no one knew what had happened during this time period...such meanness cannot be justified under any circumstances whatsoever’ On May 12th 1922 Mayor Harry Wimmer announced his candidacy for Governor of Illinois against incumbent James Muhlenberg...Wimmer won with over 60% of the vote! This event signaled an end to mayoralty terms in Kane County after only two years...from then on centralized government would operate through the county board…From 1925 until 1958 central government operated out of three different buildings – one on Main Street outside City Hall where departments such as health services were housed; another building on North First Avenue inside City Hall where financial matters were handled; while lastly another building on West State Street which served as police headquarters from 1925 until 1958’ In 1951 central government moved from its original location inside City Hall onto South First Avenue adjacent to Shaw’s Drugstore following major renovations overseen by architect Leonard Kahn who designed many landmark Chicago buildings including The Merchandise Mart & Willis Tower

Centralia, Illinois, is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 32,521 at the 2010 census. Centralia's history dates back to 1837 when the town of Centralia was founded by Captain John D. Silliman and his family. The city was named for the central business district of Chicago where most of the cotton plantations were located at that time. In 1872, Centralia became an independent municipality and in 1977 it merged with Wheeling, West Virginia to form Wheeling-Centralia Township. The first post office in Centralia was established on October 25th, 1837 as Cedar Rapids Post Office. On July 1st, 1840 Union Pacific Railroad reached Centralia from Rock Island via Cedar Rapids; this railroad helped stimulate growth in nearby towns such as Palmyra and Albion which soon followed suit and adopted Centralia's name. By 1860 Centralia had grown sufficiently that it attained its own marketeer system with two ministers providing groceries and furs to their citizens while also maintaining a large mercantile store. In 1892 after years of debate between the two towns over annexation into Wheeling-Centralia Township or merger into Wheeling-Wrightville Township (now Wabash Valley), voters decided overwhelmingly to merge with Wrightville following campaign promises made by then Mayor James Tabor Sr.. However due to economic conditions within both municipalities combined (particularly during World War II), the merger did not take place until 1984 when both cities achieved full city status under one government structure - City of CentralIA! Today there are over 50 businesses operating within the downtown core including several hotel/motel chains as well as many small businesses catering largely to residents within walking distance of all types of retail stores from grocery stores to clothing boutiques! Additionally there are several parks available throughout town for recreation and pleasure! When completed in 1916 during President Woodrow Wilson's New Deal programs%, the new Municipal Stadium served as home field for Stroudsburg High School baseball teams until it closed its doors in 1998 after 27 seasons! The stadium today is used primarily for soccer events conducted within wheeling civic center which offers excellent views of downtown & surrounding neighborhoods!!!
