East Moline, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was founded by Methodists in 1836 and its first post office was established in 1840. The townsite of East Moline was donated by James A. East to Methodist minister Phebe Wagoner on November 26, 1836. Mrs. Wagoner organized the first meeting of a township committee on December 1st and approved the donation as well as naming it for her friend and mentor Mrs. John Dickinson (1792-1864). She served as first township president from 1837-38 and again from 1840-43; she also supervised building of church buildings and other public works throughout the township during these years. In 1846 work began on what would become East Moline's first schoolhouse which opened that year with 12 students attending grades one through four; however due to costs associated with construction only six pupils attended each session until 1850 when an addition were added to house 13 students plus another classroom for special needs children In 1860 an addition were made to house 16 students but due to financial problems only 8学生 attend each session until 1865 when another addition were made allowing 24 students total attendance in grades five through eight In 1870 an additional two rooms were added making it possible for 36 students to attend each session In 1875 an addition were made providing 48students with access to three classrooms At this point enrollment had reached 80 students per session until 1895 when a new gymnasium/library Building was completed increasing student enrollment up to 104 students per season For twenty years following the opening of this facility no more than 10 or 12 high school seniors attended day & evening classes together unless they took summer courses or went off campus for college majoring in engineering or science

The city of East Moline, Illinois was founded in 1836 by James K. Polk and his brother John C. Polk. The city became a railroad town, and the first branch line was built to it in 1852. In 1868, East Molinewas incorporated as a village. In 1924, the village was merged into the city of East Moline.
