Bullets have been a part of Midlothian, Illinois history for many years. The first bullets were made in 1881 by a company named Colt and Company. This company was founded by Nicholas Colt and his father, John Colts. The first rifles made with bullets were called the “Colt Model”. This rifle was designed to be used in the American Civil War. It consisted of a barrel that was about 36 inches long and had a magazine that held 10 rounds. The gun was fired from a prone position and it could shoot at up to 350 yards away. In 1885, another company named Winchester came into existence and started making ammunition for this new rifle model called the Winchester Model 1886. This Ammunition consisted of lead shot that could be fired from a variety of distances including 100 yards, 175 yards, or 250 yards! In 1892, another company named Peacemaker came into existence and started making ammunition for the Winchester Model 1886 as well as other firearms such as shotguns and handguns! These companies continued to make ammunition until 1899 when they all went out of business! The second Rifle Division during World War 1 consistantly used cartridges known as "Tite-Brite" which were created with an incendiary bullet design intended only for use against military targets such as artillery pieces or trenches! After America entered World War 1 in 1917 due to Belgium's entry into war on the side of Austria-Hungary, the United States Congress passed legislation authorizing production of armor piercing bullets known colloquially as “MILITARY RIFLE BULLET” caliber .@ match type projectiles having an incendiary nose primer (i.e., Tite-Brite) adapted from European practice approved February 1918!!! Bullets manufactured under this legislation became available for general use by American soldiers on April 6th 1919 thru November 11th 1919 with projectile designation M1918A4 jacketed hollow point bullet not being authorized prior to delivery to armies effective December 16th 1919!!!!!

The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is a bedroom community for Chicago. The first person to settle in what is now Midlothian was John Stephenson in 1819. Stephenson built a cabin on land that he purchased from David Holland. In 1827, Stephenson founded Stephenson's Wharf and Marine Store which became one of the largest mercantile businesses in Illinois and later in America. In 1831, George Washington Carver came to Midlothian to purchase farmland north of town from Jesse Alcorn. Carver would soon become one of Midlothian's most prominent citizens and property owner. He donated over 120 acres (49 hectares) to build a college campus which would bear his name: Carver College (now Northwestern University). In 1865, John Fenton established an academy here named after him which would become one of the leading schools for girls in Cook County until it closed its doors in 2002. Midlothian has been home to many famous people including Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson and Edward Everett Hale Jr.. The area also has several landmarks associated with them such as "The General" restaurant where President Woodrow Wilson ate his last meal before leaving office, as well as Harry S Truman's presidential library which is located across the street from Stevenson College where he taught law until 1974.

Midlothian experienced rapid growth during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its location on the Mississippi River floodplain and its connections to various railroads. By 1850, Midlothian had reached a population of 2,000 people. The community continued to grow throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century; during World War I Midlothian served as an airfield for American forces fighting in Europe. In 1922,Midlothian became one of several towns in Vermilion County that were consolidated with neighboring Decatur Township to form the new city of Carbondale.
