Midlothian, Illinois (formerly Midwestern Illinois) is a city in and the county seat of McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 18,521 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is part of the Chicago–Naperville– Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Midlothian were French traders operating from Fort Chartres on the Fox River in 1763. They named their new trading post "Nantes" after the town of Nantes, France. The next year, Captain John Butler built a fort at what would become Midtown on his farm nearpresent-day McNamara Road and Prospect Avenue. By 1765, Fort Chartres had been abandoned and all French traders moved out of northern Illinois until 1767 when they reopened an old post at present-day White Sulphur Springs. In that year also, Colonel George Rogers Clark founded Rock Island Arsenal on this site along with another forts at Peoria (now Peoria Heights) and Kankakee (now Kendall). In 1809, General James Hanks forced Potawatomi Indians out of central Indiana into Indian Territory under Treaty No. 8 which ceded most of modern day southcentral Illinois to Great Britain as well as much eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin to America. At this time much of what is now Midwestern Illinois was still part of Indiana Territory including present day Mclean County. King Louis I granted land east of the Mississippi River to Abraham Lincoln for his idea for a railroad from Indianapolis through Bloomington to Jacksonville Landing on Lake Michigan shoreline where goods could be loaded onto ships bound for Europe before sailing back home across Lake Michigan In 1847 Main Street was laid out in downtown by Mayor Lorenzo Blackwell who had come from Palmyra Township in Schuyler County which then included parts today's Evanston Township and Chicago Heights neighborhood west of Milwaukee Avenue On November 1st 1849 "The Chicago Daily Tribune" wrote about "Agrandizing Wauconda", a $2 million enterprise started by Nicholas Brady intended to bring water power generation westward via canal from Iron Mountain in downriverIndiana under right-of-way grant issued by royal decree ...the venture failed spectacularly due principally to lack of capital." After multiple failures over several years Brady sold his interest in Agrandizing Wauconda to Jnoeph Pritzker in 1850 for $10 million Later that same year Pritzker donated land off McCormick Place near Soldier Field so that Chicagolandans couldmore easily see their local government while away at work or school American businessman Cyrus McCormick purchased McCormick Place from Pritzker shortly thereafter becoming one of the largest private landowners ever within City limits Midwestern Illini High School opened its doors on October 25th 1947 with just 66 students enrolled but soon became known as one of America's top high schools given its successful athletic program headlined by Heisman TrophyWinner Gene Upshaw and NFL Star running back Jim Thorpe

Midlothian, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Virginia. The population was 1,479 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is notable for its extensive African American history and as the birthplace of Malcolm X. The first African Americans to settle in Midlothian were those who had come from what is now West Virginia in 1819. They were followed by other families over the next few years until all black residents of Midlothian were established in 1827. By 1830, there were around 100 black residents living in Midlothian. During the 1850s, many slaves who had been taken from Africa began to arrive in Midlothian as part of a large slave trade conducted by Upper South Carolina merchants looking for new labor sources. These newcomers made their way into what was then a white-majority community and gradually assimilated over time into local society. In 1875, when two men named George Washington and James Worthy purchased land northwest of town on which they built a house known as "The White House", it became one of the first public houses west of the Appalachian Mountains. It served as an important meeting place for local farmers and officials during Reconstruction era America. After Worthy's death in 1888, his wife moved into The White House with him and continued to live there until her death in 1943; it then came under ownership by John Fentonange Jr., who kept it until 1971 before it was donated to Midlothian Community College for use as an academic building. In 1976–77, during the height of racial tension across America following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., The White House was used as the headquarters for a series of protests organized by students at Central High School. In 1990s and 2000s efforts have been made to restore/use portions of The White House including hosting events such as "Obama's First 100 Days: A Tribute To Black History" on October 12th each year since 2009. As early as 1803 white settlers had begun moving into what is now McLean County through purchases or investment within independent grants issued by Lord Dunmore (later King George III) along with Maryland Governor Thomas JeffersonHezekiah Chandler. With more than 6000 people residing within 10 miles (16 km) radius of Fairfax Court House on July 14th 1783 (the first recorded act invoking martial law), Dunmore declared that no person but white men could reside therein < ref >George Washington Papers – Book IV:5 . As early arrivals included men skilled hunters and gatherers several Negroes indentured servants or free blacks accompanied them initially but soon most Africans left due to lack opportunities hereabouts while some prospered thru naturalization process after coming ashore seeking refuge from British Royal Prohibitions posed against bringing enslaved Africans northward eventually reaching Utopia Landing northeast side creek near present day Hyattsville MD where they socialized & traded with whites.
