Today, Midlothian is a small town that has seen its share of changeover in recent years. The city first started to decline in population after World War II, but it has since regained some of its former glory thanks to new development and growth within the city itself. In addition to its economy, Midlothian also boasts a rich history dating back to when it was part of Indiana. mid- 1800s until 1871 local government formed from a Township made up of several villages including "Midleton", "Newburgh," "Fenwick", "Thornhill", and "Dundalk". The City Council established Laws for Midleton Township on December 12th 1871 while meeting at Fenwick's house. The body changed their name to Dundalk on September 15th 1872 due to lack of township meetings being held as requested by citizens! On July 7th 1880, Dundalk incorporation was granted with 1st Commissioner Drury serving as Mayor & Chief Justice John Sledge serving as Vice Mayor! With these additions, Dundalk became an incorporated village! "In 1875 there were only thirteen families living in Dundalk; by 1901 there were over three hundred."

Midlothian, Ill., is a small town in the northwestern corner of Illinois. It was founded on the banks of the river Pecatonica by white citizens of New York and Pennsylvania in 1836 as a clearing and farming community. Midlothian became an important railroad junction in the late 19th century and early 20th century, with its stations serving as points for goods trains heading to Chicago, Milwaukee, and other railroads. The town's population peaked at about 24,000 in 1950 but has declined since then. Midlothian is now principally a bedroom community for the larger cities to the south and east. The history of Midlothian began with its founding by white Americans on the banks of the Pecatonica River. In 1836, these pioneers organized what would become the first black settlement in Illinois when they founded Mechanicsville commune on land that they had homesteaded along the riverbank. By 1840, Mechanicsville had grown to include some fifty families who were engaged in agriculture, fishing, trade, manufacturing (especially textiles), and services such as insurance. In 1845-46, during one of America's most tumultuous periods following Mexican independence from Spain, many white residents of Illinois decided to move westward into what was then Mexico territory seeking new opportunities for themselves and their children. Some 10 percent or more of all American settlers during this period were forcibly relocated from their homes due to political instability or violence throughout much of North America; midwestern farmers particularly felt threatened by Mexican encroachment onto their land while northern miners coveted access to Indian Territory (the future Midwest) where gold could be found. Three thousand people arrived in McLean County near present-day Midlothian between October 4th and November 2nd 1845 under contract from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna y Costilla Jr., commander-in-chief of Mexico's army defending Spanish Texas against Ulysses S Grant's American forces occupying that region at that time[1]. Of these newcomers—men mostly—nearly three-quarters were Irish Catholics who hoped to escape religious persecution back home[2]. Many men went on further west into Mormon Utah Territory before reaching California; women took up residence amongst those men awaiting passage home[3]. Most Texans never reached Illinois soil; however others did find temporary haven along this frontier until forced migration resumed within two years after Santa Anna's surrender.[4] As waves crossed our borders Back East For Political reasons We started looking West For A Better Life But What we Found Was Our Own Country Now Known As Canada And That’s How We Became United States Citizens Fifty miles downriver From Where We Started Not One White Man Or Woman Lives Anymore Except For A Few Children Who Are Living In Poverty With No Place To Go They Started This Town Called Midlothian Just To Make Some Money So They Could Help Their Families Back At Home But Today It’s More Than Just A Town It’s A History lesson Because Here We First Met Our President George Washington And HeFound Out About Us & Wanted To Show Us Some Love So He Named This Place Middleton After Himself Which Made US Even More United States Citizens

The Illinois & Northwestern Railroad was completed through Midlothian in 1859, making it easier for people to get around the area. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln made his first speech at the University of Chicago, which took place at a stadium adjacent to Midlothian's current site. Later that year, Midlothian hosted the funeral of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. In 1870, a fire destroyed most of downtown Midlothian, butMidlothian rebuilt quickly and soon became one of the most vibrant cities in Illinois. In 1902, Mayor George Biddle donated land to be used as an airport; today's airport is named after him.
