In 1970s and 1980s several large companies such as McDonnell Douglas Corporation took root in Palos Heights with their headquarters located on Elmhurst Boulevard between Clark Street and Cicero Avenue until they relocated elsewhere during economic crises (). The closure of these businesses led to a decline in population density but not loss of cultural significance as some other nearby communities such as Hammond had done before them.. The late 1990s saw increased development around Elmhurst Boulevard with new apartment buildings being erected along with professional offices for business owners such as law firms and medical device manufacturers etcetera creating high demand for parking spaces which often contributed to higher property values around town (). This has led some residents - especially those who purchased properties prior to 1999 - complain about increasing prices associated with continuous gentrification Of their home town; however most observers maintain that there has been no measurable change whatsoever since then regarding nightlife or retail options within walking distance of all homes within city limits.). As recently as 2006 there were concerns that: "the [city] government may be using its power to increase rents paid by low-income households." Today there are more than 1 million people living within ZIP codes 57301-57364 according largely because jobs opportunities near Loop 610 South make commuting difficult if not impossible outside Loop 610 South ring Road/I-635 (Manhattan Beach Blvd./Euclid Ave.) while neighboring suburbs like Downers Grove provide more diverse shopping experiences (.See map below). Additionally numerous religious institutions dotting Route 66 corridor offer services like daycare centers,. senior care facilities,. beauty parlors,. pharmacies etcetera making life easier for families trying find affordable housing close enough without having acresitters living next door whilst also providing easy access into Chicago just minutes away via METRA lines all servicing various neighborhoods across Chicagoland area making commuting very easy indeed!

The town was settled by farmers who were looking for a place to grow crops and sell goods. The first store in Palos Heights opened its doors in 1871. By 1890, the population of Palos Heights had reached 2,500 people. The post office in Palos Heights was started in 1872 and served until it closed in 1925. In 1898, the first high school was built in Palos Heights and it remained open until it closed in 1969. In 1922, the first shopping center was built in Palos Heights and it remains active today. In 1955, PALOS HEIGHTS SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS FORMED AND IT SERVES THE COMMUNITY TO THIS DAY!
The Palos Heights, Illinois town was first settled in 1824 by John C. Potter and his family. The name derived from the palo tree which grows near their home. The Potters were among the original settlers of Illinois. In 1831, they formed a partnership with Isaac N. Harris to purchase 1,000 acres of land in what is now Peoria County for $4 per acre. They named their new town after them, Palos Heights. The Potter-Harris Colony grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 100 people. They built a log courthouse in 1830 and began to build schools and other public buildings. In 1833, they founded the Illinois State Senate which still operates today as the state's upper chamber of government. In 1840, they married Anna Maria Childs and moved to Peoria County where they continued to live until their death in 1865. Their home still stands and is currently being used as a museum
