Post and others with the intent to create a small town near Chicago's Lake Michigan shoreline for its citizens and other businesses. The first post office opened in 1875. In 1886, a canal was constructed through the community and water service began; however, it never became profitable to operate as a commercial center due to limited resources and competition from neighboring towns on the west side of Chicago. In 1906, William Hintz purchased land adjacent to present-day Palos Heights Boulevard/Ulysses S. Grant Drive for use as an agricultural fairgrounds that would serve as a model for what later became Midwestern Communities Centers (MCCs). After years of development work including building roads and housing developments on his property, Hintz donated his land for MCC use in 1916; today's Midwestern Communities Centers are based upon this original concept. During World War II many residents moved into newly built suburbs such as Westwood or Northfield on the city's west Side due to wartime rationing which resulted in less available farmland close by for farming families like those from Palos Heights Manor. As a result of postwar suburban growth there has been increased demand for transportation access within Palos Heights proper - currently Via Rail operates one stop within walking distance of almost all homes while several bus lines provide service throughout mostdays

Palos Heights was founded in 1827 as a small community of about 100E. The town quickly grew, and by 1830 it had a population of 1,500 people. By 1839, Palos Heights had become an incorporated town with a population of 4,000 people. In 1865, the Palos Heights Railroad became available to residents in the town. This led to rapid growth in the community until it reached its peak in the late 1800s. In1909, Palos Heights experienced an economic recession due to depression-era measures enacted by President William McKinley. Many businesses closed their doors during this time and many residents lost their jobs. Despite this setback, Palos Heights continued to grow and annexed two adjacent towns - Winnetka and Archertown - in 1912. Today, Palos Heights is one of Illinois' largest cities with over 120K residents residing within its limits
