The Riverdale Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1903. It was one of the first rifle clubs in Illinois, and until World War II it had the largest collection of firearms in the state. The club’s library is filled with historical documents and photographs from its founding to today. One of the earliest shooters in Riverdale was Samuel Butler, who started shooting pistols at age 10. He later became a member of the club and developed a strong interest in rifles. In 1892, he founded the Illinois Rifle Association (IRA), which served as the nucleus of what would become Riverdale Rifle & Pistol Club. Over time IRAs membership grew to over 1,000 members. In 1903, Butler met Abe Lincoln while they were both members of the IRA. They became friends and began helping each other shoot guns at local ranges. soon after they left their roles with IRAs for re-establishing themselves as separate organizations. The NRA also emerged as an important part of Riverdale’s history; shot putt competitions were held here for many years before being moved to larger facilities elsewhere in town. In 1907, Butler merged his two organizations into one entity under the name of Riverdale Rifle & Pistol Club-National Firearms Association (NFA). This merger made NFA one of America’s oldest gun rights organizations dating back to 1871! For example, on October 3rd 1906 there was an event that helped define what it means today when President Jack Taft presented a bill designatingRiverdaleasaNational Historic Site! As handguns slowly replaced rifles as India's main armament during World War II many members turned to shotguns instead due to availability or personal preference; this led ultimately to R&P becoming an all shotgun organization again! The village of Riverdale was platted in 1847 by John P. Davenport and James C. Hickey as part of the modern-day city of Springfield. The first post office was established in 1851, and the first store was built in 1854. In 1870, when Alton Park was founded adjacent to Riverdale, it became an even larger suburb of Springfield with its own school system and churches. In 1932, Riverdale merged with nearby Ottawa to form what is now known as Springfield Township (although it still retains its own name). This merger did not result in any physical changes to Riverdale itself; all that changed were the names given to two blocks east of downtown – Arlington Heights and Prospect Hill – which are now home to some high-end housing developments and small shopping malls respectively. According to the 2010 census, 9,844 people live within a 2 mile radius of Riverdale Town Hall; this increase from 7,653 at 2000 census data point estimate. Almost all residents within this radius work outside their homes or commute into Springfield for jobs on Interstate 71 or I-270 westward (the only exceptions being students attending local colleges/universities). As such, riverfront commercial areas located near town hall are generally devoid of businesses other than a few fast food restaurants and convenience stores serving locals only; these anchor districts also house most public transportation stops for residents travelling into town from outlying neighborhoods or cities via Route 66 less than 2 miles away from town center (I-71) or I-270 northward (I-470). Riverdale is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Riverdale was founded by Germans in 1847 and named for a small stream that ran through the town. The first settlers were farmers who raised corn and other crops. By 1860, about 60% of the town's residents were German immigrants. In 1865,riverdale became an all-white municipality when white residents seceded from Kane County over concerns about their share of local government revenues. After years of lobbying by African Americans and others, Riverdale finally became black majority on November 4th, 1970 via an initiative referendum which passed with almost 70% participation from citizens of both races. In 1870,sixtyeight percent of Riverdale's residents were German immigrants; however this percentage decreased to just 26% by 1910 due to internal migration among its own people as well as increased immigration from other parts of Kane County due to rapid growth in the agricultural industry there during that period (see: "Changes in ethnic makeup" elsewhere on this website). During World War II much of riverdale's heavy manufacturing took place at Wernher von Braun's Peet Memorial Paper Company campus adjacent to now known as Midway Airport; many buildings still remain standing today including Von Braun Stadium (now Midway Airport Airpark) and nearby Bois d'Arc Lake reservoir/ Battlefield Park remnants from that time period! The post-war era saw dramatic changes for Riverdale as its population slowly stabilized around 10K until reaching 12K in 1960 due largely to suburbanization within a short distance of the city center (see: "Racial composition"). This change also coincided with changes occurring throughout Kane County generally: more whites moved into rural areas while blacks retained most populated urban centers across the county periphery (the exception being Kankakee which saw significant black settlement beginning in earnest after World War II ). However by 1990 only 33%of Riverdale's inhabitants identified themselves as "German", while nearly half did so nationwide...in contrast Kankakee had experienced rapid black settlement since World War II , making it one potential focus for anti-immigrant sentiment during these difficult times The opportunities created by suburbia - including expansive malls and large employment sectors outside village boundaries - are what has led to increasing Hispanic and Asian American populations living near or inside villages throughout northwest Illinois today... Prioritizing economic development above demographic change has led to some negative consequences such as increased crime rates within villages despite efforts made by village leaders to maintain law enforcement resources close to communities . Today, racial demographics continue shifts withinRiverdalespontaneous movements unplanned by those running things because they know better than anyone else where their money is going

Riverdale is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,786 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Riverdale was first settled by Germans in 1837. The city was incorporated on August 29, 1881. The name "Riverdale" comes from thereek "Riverside" which means "place where the rivers meet." The first European to visit what is now Riverdale was Andreas von Hagen who journeyed through Illinois in 1672 and noted that the land looked like a “prominence on a low river” with deep woods near it and “a great park or meadow called Riverside” nearby. In 1785, John Callahan set out from Fort Dearborn on his way to trade with Native Americans at Kaskaskia Falls located about due south of present-day Riverdale village. He encampment lay some miles east of what is now Riverford Township and west of today's Roscoe Village before reaching Kaskaskia Rapids just north of Prairie du Chien Creek approximately one mile upstream from present-day Kaskaskia Heights Drive. callahan named his new settlement after himself - Das Rheingold - German for 'the rosy hill'. After trading goods with local natives for several days he returned northeast along current day I-55 to reach Kiskaska Falls before continuing northwest along current day Kiskaska Road (now US 31) until arriving at Das Rheingold about two miles southeast of today's village site where he built his log cabin and continued trading with local Indians. In 1795 Nicholas Biddle founded what became known as Biddle Valley in what is now center Township - which lay east and slightlynorthwest of modern day Rivervale village - after purchasing over 100 acres (40 ha) adjacent to Das Rheingold settlementsite.. In 1837, Drury & Company organized as the first company townutilities company in Sangamon County when they bought 160 acres (60 ha) around present day River Dale from Nicholas Biddle.. On October 6th 1830, Isaac Greenwood married Anna Maria Semenoff at White Chapel Presbyterian Church in Evanston . They had six children: Anna Maria (1831-1912), Isaac (1833-1914), Sarah Ann (1835-1906), Chester Alfred Greenwood Jr.(1839-1920), Lucy Elizabeth Greenwood(1841-1945). On December 2nd 1830, AnnaMaria gave birth to their only child - Chester Alfred Greenwood Jr.- who would later become an American Congressman from Illinois

Riverdale is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,710 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community is located on the south side of the Chicago River and is bordered by Oak Park to the east and Northwest Side to the north. The Town of Riverdale was formed from two adjoining townships, East Moline and West Moline. On November 3, 1837, when Township 1 was combined with Township 2 (now Riverdale), East Moline had a population of 527 and West Moline had a population of 721; both townships now make up Riverdale. On February 14, 1892, when Township 2 was split into Addison and North Addison townships, Riverdale's boundaries were extended westward to include parts of North Lawndale as well as some land south of Lake Shore Drive that had been annexed by Lawndale in 1870. On October 29th 1959 - just two years afterriverdale opened its doors for business- A handgun law change went into effect which made it an unincorporated community governed by its own board Of Trustees rather than being under municipal jurisdiction like other communities in Cook County
