Roselle, Illinois is a small town in northwest Cook County, Illinois. It was founded in 1868 by the merger of two smaller towns, Rocksville and Union. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Roselle was George Wiman and his family. They arrived on horseback from Indiana in 1868. In 1870 they moved to the Lots 1 and 2 farmstead which they shared with James Fenton and his wife Sarah. In 1872 Wiman bought lot 3 which he donated to the town for a school district seal as a sign of community support. In 1875 John Dory sold lot 4 to Cornelius Nevin for $200 per acre (equivalent to $ ). This land became part of Roselle Township when it was organized on November 15, 1876. The township's name changed to Roselle Township on February 14, 1907 due to the mergers of other townships into Cook County during that year's statehood proceedings. In 1896 JF Hickey opened the first post office in Roselle with six postal employees. He served until 1918 when he joined the Chicago & North Western Railroad as its executive vice president for marketing and sales operations in Chicago. After Hickey's death in 1928, his son-in-law Harry Cavanaugh took over his fathers position until 1952 when he succeeded him as postmaster general under President Franklin D Roosevelt . He retired from service effective December 15, 1978 having held that position for 49 years! The current postmaster general is Jennifer Pappe who has held her position since July 1, 2017

Roselle is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1868 by the merger of two smaller settlements, North Roselle and South Roselle. The population was 3,878 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Roselle was Abraham Lincoln who arrived with his family in 1814. After three years they moved to Peoria and then to Skokie before settling here permanently. In 1868, when the post office was established in this village, there were just 10 people living hereabouts; today there are over 100 residents. In 1912 the Chicago & Northwestern Railway built a line from Joliet to Roselle which added much needed traffic to the village’s economy. This also helped increase itsresidential population from 30 to 400 over the next few decades. One of Roses most famous residents was Artemus Ward who lived here from 1889 until he died in 1930. During his time as Mayor of Chicago he led many important campaigns including one that helped get funding for the city's first public library. Other notable residents include: Julius Rosenwald (founder of Sears Roebuck), Arthur Ashe (a tennis player who won four Grand Slam tournaments), Edwin Droste (founder of Hoagie King fame) and Jack Kemp (the 33rd Governor of New York). A big part of Roses economy has always been agriculture- with crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, fruits and vegetables grown throughout much of central Illinois; eggs being raised around town on small cages near local factories; roses being shipped into markets all across North America; and leather products exported both domestically and internationally-. Today roses account for only 1% or soof Roses total GDP but they make up almost half its retail sales worth $2 billion annually!
The first European to visit Roselle was Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable in 1688. He named the town after his patron saint, Saint Rose of Lima. The town was founded by a group of French traders in 1785 and became a village in 1827. It had a population of about 200 people in 1830. Roselle was incorporated as a township on November 1, 1836, from portions of Cook County. On October 8, 1846, the name of the village was changed to Roselle-on-the-Hudson after its founder, Rev. John Hudson (1792–1868). The post office at Roselle operated from 1856 to 1861; it then moved to Elgin. The first settler at Roselle was Samuel Hickey (1812–1872). A new flour mill started operation in 1865 and soon became one of Illinois' largest mills; it continued operating until 1973. In 1896, the Chicago World's Fair took place in Chicago and many small towns along the Great Lakes region served as backdrop sites for large events such as that fair. One result was increased tourism which led to growth in businesses around the area including those associated with flour production. As more people came into town and more businesses opened up, social services were needed for residents who couldn't find enough work or affordable housing outside their homes or communities near downtown Chicago. This led to development within the community itself including two ice cream parlors being built within walking distance of each other and libraries opening up so that residents could access information unavailable through newspapers or books
